D2R now has lots of mods on the Nexus. Which is awesome, I still have D2SE installed and play regularly , I’ve really been looking forward to the Modding scene moving into D2R as well. One of the biggest issues i see right now, is that the game requires you to update it and log into battle.net every 30-days or else the game will stop launching, it will say “It’s been 30days since you were last online, please refresh your license” forcing you to update the client and break compatibility with whatever mod you were playing. Is there a way to get around this that i am missing? or could that feature be added to the launcher to allow us to launch old versions of D2R without the newest patch? (We should be able to do this legally without installing a crack to bypass servers)
I know the Dev team has publicly stated they are pro-mods and have moved lots of data to TXT format, and going as far as to explain the process to help. Shout out to the Devs for that! Thank you. But we really need some form of multiplayer without the realm involved, for example, a great solution would be allowing people to join games via the friends list (since TCP /IP isn’t coming back). That way it still requires a Battle Net account & license purchase. I know blizzard opposes custom realms, but why ban all offline co-op? Co-op and LAN parties are one of the areas where Diablo 2 has shined for the last 20years, allowing my wife and I to play together offline (with cheats or mods activate) is absolutely expected. It’s a different game without the Co-op experience.
I support modding so much because i think D2R should try and stay faithful to it’s origin. This way purists get the game as it has always been, but people who want a fresh spin on a classic, can just download a mod pack that adds 1000s of runewords. Best of both worlds, but without a legal way to play older versions, and a legal way to play multiplayer offline, it is basically going to be non-existent
