I played D3 and POE and never once did I find the merchant to be of any use at all. And it made me wonder why they would even include those NPC merchant in the game.
Played D2 first time and the merchant seems super important like I get better gear from merchant by saving up gold and buying said gear than I get from farming drops.
Picking up and saving gold also seems super important for some reason.
It plays like a traditional RPG and the story and voice acting seems incredible.
I couldn’t listen to most of the NPC story in D3 because it didn’t feel like it was worth my time.
I am now in Act 2, when does the merchant and gold become useless like in D3 and POE?
BTW in D3 and POE, majority like 99% of Legendary Drops are worthless and worth less than yellows.
Is this the same in D2?
It’s the same outside of a select uniques used for builds like chance guards or just good uniques like Shako. Though the uniques have to roll perfect or near perfect to get anything worth value.
Uniques are more prevalent here than in other games and rolls are much less important on uniques than the uniques themselves, unless it’s a high end unique.
Gold will be useful up to endgame for buying potions, scrolls and reviving your merc. You can also gamble with the gold, gambling is a good source of certain, very good items, but it will take a huge amount of gold to get one of those items.
Ja, that is a good point, some yellow rare items in D2 are priceless. Try to find a helm, circlet, +2 to skills, a bit of life, and faster cast rate or whatnot plus some resis and then the important stat, plus charges to teleport. I found in years of playing, 1, as in ONE with those stats. In comparison, I found about 50+ shakos. I guess you get the point.
And as for merchants, well wait til you have too much gold, max is 1.5million I think per stash and come to gambling and gamble the first real good item. Those merchants will throughout the game never become useless until the very end of the game. Hence also Gold will never become useless.
A little hint for merchants, get you a 3 socket bow, put TirTalAmn runes in it, easy to find, and put the bow in your weapon slot before you go to merchants, the bow (runeword) lowers the prices by 15%…
you can gamble circlets worth hundred of ber runes
shop forjavazon or mosaic sin 3/20 gloves
magic claws that are best in the game +3 trap +3sentry
javelins 6/40 that are best damage in the entire game for java
life tap wands / teleport stafs / monster prevention javelins for uber diablo
gamble unique ring amu in search of soj/mara
shopping for nercro white base (best pnb necro wand in the game)
shopping for jeveled armour of the whale, the most expencive armor in the game for amazon counting hundreds of ber runes
shopping on high level for crafting materials obviously
you buy potions with poision freeze resistans and their time is STACKING every pot
list can go on, but you obviously need more to learn about shopkeepers
I think there are more usless items in d2 than d3. D3 constantly get updates to itemization. D2r team does not want to update old uniques wich is a shame.
yes gold CAN remain relevant if you want it, i don’t partake in gambling that much, and you always need minimal gold for reviving your merc / repairing your gear. you should never have 0 gold.
but if you’re not into gambling well then past a certain point gold does become useless. but ya, if you wanna use it, you can !
but i guess i have gambled things like griffs and maras … soo. i have done my fair share haha.
Some yellows will outplay unqiues with “god rolls” with that being said POE looks like D2. Not the other way around. POE was made for D2 fans after its collapse
there has never been a “collapse” but rather. the need for something else after no good aRPGS had been made in a long time, torch lite tried, wasn’t great, PoE came in and… was not good at first, got good for a bit, then it became the chaos that it is now with every event in every game and 10 things going on at once… yikes.
diablo 2 is still the king, and with poe 2 and diablo 4 on the horizon, i don’t see either of them being better.
Some items like: jeweler monarch of deflection (jmod) and many classe of assassin like 3 trap 3 light sentry 40 IAS great talon…
Is Blue items, u can Easy find act 5 hell only doing anya-red portal-anya all day whitout kill no One mobs, you dont waste billions like gamblin coz you buy only if right item spown, and the price Is mind blowing. For example i sow jmod for d2r on websites at 20k euros and Easy claws 6 to light sentry at 5-10k euros. When the highest rune on game worth less the 1 euro you can understand now the real Power of NPC on d2. And yes blizzard can ban me for this comment but all got Google for check if Is true. I can report what i have sow but the responsability Is on bliz if in d3 i have pay the content of action house too and him removed After i buy the game and lock items to account and After 23 years of d2 this still happen all days.
Merchants in poe are far from useless. Skill gems, currency conversion, colored links you need, hp flasks while leveling, upgrade and crafting recipes, rings and amulets with stats/resists.
You just need to have a little game knowledge to see the value in the white items sold and turn them into usable items. But they are absolutely essential to starting off in a league and fill in gaps quickly.
