D2 is a Masterpiece

Don’t quit on D2R. There is still much that can be done with this masterpiece of a game. Players have been waiting for item overhaul since it’s inception. We want more, this game has proven its itemization and adventure is not like any other in the genre. It deserves another expansion and increased leveling cap with new content.

I understand it costs a lot of money and manpower to code new content for the old game, but hey one can dream about an extension to the one Diablo title that wasn’t destroyed in its initial creation by capitalism and share holders.

D2:R is a remaster of a game that has been largely complete* for quite some time. If they were to throw more content at it, then it would cease to be a remaster.

*Outside of bug fixes, quality of life additions, skill balancing, and new items/runewords.

There are plenty of game options out there that get regular infusions of new content.

AAA title games that are buy once and play forever are fading into non-existence… $60 back in the '90’s and '00’s went a lot further than it does today.

The MSRP of the original game ($60) + LoD ($35) would be equivalent to $164.35 in todays dollars.

I agree, Diablo 2 is a master piece.
However, according to me, it doesnt need more acts, it needs repairs & other small adjustments. Then it needs to be locked down, when it has been fixed & balanced. Just like the Chess game.
Then people can play it from time to time.

I would not want to see an expansion for this game. Not by blizzard today or blizzard north crew. Brevik already said in the interview with lama that misstakes and luck made diablo what it is (he didn’t say it exactly like that but that was what i gathered out lf his words) so the chance of an expansion improving anything is slim to none.

Wow that one thread when everyone agrees with each other

The game could be improved, sure. However, it comes down to money. I’d imagine at this point they’re not selling many copies anymore. D4 and DI are their cash cows now so that is where their attention will be. They could do expansions or something for more money but who knows if they will.

Yet BG3 just raised the bar! Good for them! It’s about time.

5000 employees … boasting $666 million for D4 alone, not including revenue from all other games …

money is NOT the issue at this point to fix/improve the company games … it’s pure unadulterated greed.

I think you mean “was” this game is done.

diablo 2, was a masterpiece. current state - dumpster fire trash like every other title they have messed with.

the only thing good left seems to be sc2.

overwatch is … playable if you don’t care about balance. or winning.

I hope you’re not suggest what it sounds like. Otherwise I have to ask what you mean by this comment?

Agree.
It’s the only game I play.
I think if you weed through all the post here, the majority of folks who post with true substance, looking at longevity and re-playability, are generally against power creep and “cartooning” the game.
It’s a shame in regards to bots (another topic those same folks reiterate on), but without nerfing super OP class/builds, the bots are gonna keep on keepin’ on, because if dollars earned per time invested = positive bottom line… well…

As for dollars earned, vs current product/cash-cow… what company has not leaned on the past to bolster the present/future… imagine if Porsche started reproducing last gen air cooled 911’s… or Chev reintroduced the '69 ZL1/COPO Camero… (both with minimal current day “quality of life” enhancements) it would cost them next to nothing compared to the manufacturing of current vehicles, and strengthen their brand overall.
OK, gov’t regulations would destroy both examples, but, a video game… ???

A little focus to fine tune D2(r) would create a lot of hype, and, they’ve been selling mostly hype for how long?

Meant simply that the game doesn’t necessarily need any new content to stay relevant, as it has stayed such just fine all these years. Was an AK-47 reference btw.
