With my summon necro I tend to mostly use Amplify Damage, but have recently learned that Decrepify seems to be a popular mention in a lot of summon mancer builds. With only being able to have 1 curse active on an enemy at a time, when do you use which? I figure if my 10 skelly’s and 1 golem are locked into combat with stuff, they’d benefit most from Amplify Damage.
I’ve been using amplify damage except for act bosses. So far (nightmare act II) a clay golem and decrepify makes the battle a bit of a joke.
Amp is the main running around curse unless I’m running with a sorc or trapper. In that case it’s Lower Resist because increasing their damage will get a body much faster to CE.
Bosses get Decrepify to keep them slow. Some like to be very cautious and just use decrep instead of amp. This sacrifices kill speed to keep everything slow.
Tough spots get attract to keep thing off me or get more targets softened up.
Tough ranged thing like Gloams or piercing slinger kittys get dim vision’d
Yes, damage wise Amp is the better option. I would use decrep only if slowing something down is badly needed. With decent gear (pvm) the curse shines on Baal only. For everything else clay golem slow is more than plenty (if it’s ever needed)
The issue with Dim is that on Hell difficulty you need like 20+ pts to even reach 8-10 seconds. Its duration is severely reduced.
I think Decrepify is a better choice overall but yes I agree that Dim is probably the best curse there is.
Edit: also to consider if you are a bonemancer, decrepify is huge to hit multiple mobs with bone spear.
Use Amplify Damage when dishing out straight DPS is your main objective.
Use Decrepify situationally for crowd control: super-fast enemies, keep the merc from being overwhelmed, delaying approaching mobs, etc.
Decrep is always a go-to skill for me, no matter what other skills might be in the rotation I always have it at the ready. It’s saved my bacon more than a few times.
