Cubing Runes - Please end the gem requirement madness

Even streamers seem to be asking for SSF, and Blizzard will likely listen to them.

You say I am confident, but it would be quite dumb for Blizzard to NOT implement SSF / Ironman Ladder next season.

It’s more accurate to say that I am hopeful that Blizzard has learned from this Ladder season and will have an actual challenge mode for the next.

Regardless of whether Blizzard changes drop rates or not for SSF, I would still play it.

If they don’t change the rate, it just means I would likely farm Hell Council or Kurast Bazaar for HR chances and then be much more careful with cubing choices. Either that, or just focus-farm the 85 areas with a spec that can do it as quickly as possible.

I would agree

But in a game where we could stack ingredients

This would become immensely less of an hassle

There are 33 runes

37 gems

Total 68

Doubt you’d have all of them at once, the stash is 48 slots, plenty of space imho

So gem requirement isn’t much an hinderance

As an offline player I combine runes often, and I don’t have any issue with gem requirement; however, drop rates of chipped gems in Hell are a bit too low, and because most commonly seen (by me at least) runes are up to ~Shael/Dol I’m in great need of getting chipped topazes/amethysts/sapphires/rubies. I’ve even stopped to use Gem Shrines to upgrade gems, I prefer these as a source of guaranteed chipped gems.
Alternative solution would be to start combine requirement not from chipped, but from flawed gems (Io+).

Or give us a cube recipe that lets us “downgrade” gems. C’mon, it’s very easy to take a “perfect” gem and make it “flawed” with a simple hammer. Or a rock, even…

Make it a 1:1 basis, and Bob’s your uncle…

For me, it’s whatever. Which means, I’m fine with them removing it. But I’m also fine with how it is.

seriously.

TASRED

you lay it out in your stash, and literally line it up with the runes and you still have like a 3 wide column left over.

But my advice is, Do the math. Cubing up is a waste of time on runes. You’re talking for a SSF it’s a 3 million hour endeavor to reach a Ber rune. If you were to assume the game is a piece of crap that hates you and only ever drops Shaels.

And it only drops those shaels about once per hour of gameplay. The rest of the runes are Below that. That’s the scenario I been stuck with on this game, so that’s where I started adding the numbers. And I came up with 3 million hours.

Decided to do it again, the exact number of Shaels I need to get to make a Ber is 3,359,232.

Anyone who defends the current economy surrounding runes, the drop rates or any current alternatives to attempt to grind through the drop rate. Is ignorant. At that rate, It would be better to stand on a street corner begging for enough change to buy a Powerball ticket.

Just so you can try to treat Diablo 2 runewords like NFT’s. It’s pathetic.

If I wanted Sheal or lower Runes, I’d farm Normal and Nightmare. Who the f’ plays Hell to see Normal level trash dropping?

That’s the funny part too, about Diablo 3, that you all seem to hate. Yet all it did was streamline how often I need to look at trash or visit town to stash, etc… Most drops were geared towards your level. You’re not sitting there playing a level 70 Greater rift, watching stuff that belongs in a Normal Level Campaign dropping. “Raining from the sky” you call it.

Best thing that could possibly happen to this game is to destroy JSP and any need for it.
And you all know how to destroy JSP. Stop dropping Normal Crap in Hell. Drop HELL LEVEL ITEMS IN HELL. That includes splitting the Runes up into Tiers just like every other Equipment item in this game 3 Tiers. Normal, Execeptional, Elite

I say Elite starts at IST, and I don’t want to see anything less than an ist rune dropping in hell. Screw your fake bot economy.

IF it was dropping an IST per hour, instead of a Shael per hour, that’s 64 hours to cube up to a ber.

THATS REASONABLE. Not 3 million f’ing hours.

That feels accurate.

Very very simple solution, for the love of god make runes / gems stackable… Maybe only in 10’s but that would help the most of us AND be some actual QOL

Agreed! What worthless requirements.

Brilliant! Yes, definitely make them stackable.

oh i’m not defending the rune economy or the drop rates. they’re atrocious. not just runes either. i shouldn’t be getting quilted armor or el/eld/tir runes in hell mode.

normal mode has a cap to the highest level items that can drop.

hell mode should have a lower limit on how low level an item can drop. i should be getting ghost armor and archon staves in hell mode, not piddly little normal mode armor and weapons. keep the chance for cracked/damaged and low quality, but absolutely should be a limit to tier of item.

same with runes. normal mode can only drop up to a certain rune. nightmare runes should always be middle of the pack, and hell mode should never drop below a lum.

rofl after all the bs u talk on here best rune u got is a dol /fail

just found sur 48 travs grandfathers sword pul all today sup

teh highest rune i ever got was a mal from a hell forge. never seen a sur, never seen a jah, never seen a ber, never seen a maras, never even gotten a shako or an arachnid mesh or a skin of the vipermagi

i get shael runes all day tho

Lol cube 1 gem with 1 hammer of any type… get back hammer and a lower quality gem. :stuck_out_tongue:

It just takes a LOT of runs. I did 1500 chaos runs for Ber/Vex/Vex. And around 900 Trav runs for a Cham.

And TBH that was pretty lucky.

lol i do hear ppl do 1000xs of runs but i have a.d.d and i cant sit and do more than 10x runs per time and although i spend $$$ i have at least found a vex and a sur by myself in passworded p2 games with 2 computers, so i dont understand why ppl are only finding shaels. Even without spending the $$$ i can at least get up to a shako and a few hrs from doing hell lvl 85 games with the right type of character. And a foher or java crap gear and ez p1 hell chaos/cows so hrs shouldnt even be to big a problem. Problem is i cant sit for that long.

it’s the nature of “RNG” or the “random number generator” used by the game.

computers can’t really DO random. they do patterns. so they have to simulate random, but they can’t really.

so people make these really complex algorithms that takes a bit of data as an input, called a “seed”, and then they scramble that data up to generate a resulting number to give.

the problem is, the “seed” can determine the average spread of end results. basically if you apply the RNG algorithm to the same seed, the results will generally look the same across a huge number of “rolls”

to get different results you have to use a different seed, and i believe it is set when you create the character. i do’nt know for sure though, i read a whole lecture on random number generation and watched a few ted talks, so i only understand a little bit from osmosis.

other people on here can probably explain it way better. but anyway, diablo 2’s RNG systems are old and outdated, and that’s why you get people who get the same items over and over again and never get other ones ever.

Come to the SP side – we don’t need no stinkin’ gems to cube runes.
