CtC when Struck - Brand use

i want to talk about the Chance to Cast when struck, mostly for the amp proc from Brand.

This item is godly with a good use and the right spec BUT

it doesn’t work on :

  • Venom lord / pit lord : inferno attack
  • Spell-casting Oblivion Knights : elemental orb
  • Ghoul Lord : ranged spell
  • may be more ( souls?,…)

so please. Fix the CtC when struck, to proc with EVERY HIT RECEIVED.
it will help a lot of melee char. ( specially barb tele/ww )

Yeah thats kind of the drawback with CtC when struck, emphasis on STRUCK. it wont work on spells, like blessed hammer or lightning…but if they shoot you with a bow that will get a roll on the ctc when struck spinner. if it worked on spells, it would kind of be broken. things like diablos dragon fire, sorc flame jet, demon lord fire breath. and asin flame thrower trap would cause mass casting lol

what i want to say , is that not fair.
we all know melee class are low tier.
We have to deal with our AR/ enemy has Block&50%phys res, there is no physical reduction on item, and this issue with CtC when struck.
fixing it will be " a small step for DEVS but a giant leap for melee kind "

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, but many items do have some form of physical damage reduction. however, like I said…“when struck” only applies to melee, and ranged. if it proc’d on spells too, then it would be bad. baal, diablo, meph would cause the ctc to spam.

you should also understand that the only unfair thing is magic damage. there is only ONE way to get magic res, which is incredibly broken with how damaging magic can be(I mean hdin hammers are scarey, because they cant be resisted). for fire, lightning, cold, and poison you can have as much as 95% resistance. furthermore, you can REDUCE the duration of poison, lowering it’s damage even further. Meaning that poison is the WEAKEST form of attack out of everything. I’m not even worried about poison damage lol, unless it’s wave 2 with a baal run. those horadric mummies poison breath doesnt care if you have max poison length reduction, it will last forever without cleansing.

it should be ctc on attack or ctc on strike. Blizz won’t admit it, but they just failed to use the right ctc when they created the runeword.

I think ctc on strike or attack like amp with atma and decrepify with repear or lawbringer is fine for bowazon ,shape druide or frenzy barb
But for tele/ww, imo, CtC when struck stick well with the gameplay. If it proc on every kind of hit you received, spell + melee attack. ( your merc receive )

With the fix, i don’t think it will spam amp on diablo or baal, at least no more than decrepify from reaper or lawB.
I am ok to reduce from 35% to 20% the proc on brand if they change the CtC when struck but i know blizz will never change old runeword stats

It’s a bow and you don’t want to be hit as a range attack character. Ctc on struck was clearly just a misinterpretation from the intern that made the runeword. If it was ctc on attack/strike you could eq it on the a1 merc or yourself and replace atma with it. Second slot brand to procc amp with strafe and switch back to faith/wf to finish off the screen. Not that it would be a great bow for the runecost, but it would at least fit the “bow/crossbow” only theme of the runeword.

Not necessarily. D3 has similar mechanics which work with (player’s) multihit spells. Proc spam is avoided by such skills having proc coefficient, a numeric value (lower than 1), by which the proc chance gets multiplied. Multihit spells are balanced by the proc coefficient, so they proc less often, comparable to single hit spells.

Brand;
35% Chance To Cast Level 14 Amplify Damage (holy OP AF!) when struck (ah, ok).

Wrath;
30% Chance To Cast Level 1 Decrepify (boo) On Striking (hmmm ok)

Choices… you get to make them.
