I don’t know about any of you, but a lot of people in my friend group have xbox or playstation and personally, I only do PC.
Currently, nobody wants to buy a console from the scalpers. Nobody wants to buy a GPU from the scalpers. I don’t think anyone is being unreasonable for choosing not to support scalpers.
We do have phones though, so I guess Blizzard is right about that.
Even Call of Duty gets cross platform, I’m sure there’s plenty other modern games being made to support that as well.
Totally understand if Blizzard is too busy making a Diablo phone game to bother with cross platform, at least they know what their customers want.
That’s all for my QQ.
I feel your pain about the PC market. A year ago I was trying to even do a custom build laptop with high specs as my goal… So I settled by getting 3 Poweredge r730xd servers and just putting an ok GPU in 2 of them. They out spec any desktop I was looking at, at a fraction of the cost. I don’t regret going that route one bit. The ONLY game to crash on this thing is D2R. Otherwise I can run around 15 clients of just about any game I play. Including WoW, D3, Everquest, GW and GW2. I have yet to make this thing crawl. 24 cores at 386gb ram loaded with SSDs.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are the ones controlling their own respective platform networks and netcodes. They’re the gatekeepers with regard to cross-platform play. They’re also the ones pushing for “exclusives” for their own respective platforms so they can retain customers.
Game developers can make whatever they want, but they can’t open the gates without permission.
That may be true, BUT Blizz can have a translation layer within their bnet network to have all communicate through. Unless they have a clause in their agreement to not allow such a thing, it is doable.
A real example of this is an Everquest server that allows for Mac AND Windows that exists.
I was also able to get Everquest and SWG clients to log into the same login server at one point about 4 years ago. So 2 completely different games could communicate based on the end point server capability.
Given that it would only benefit Blizzard from offering such value to their customers and boost their own player numbers, it would behoove us to assume then they likely do have such a clause in place.
It’s difficult to beleive they would purposely withhold such ability from their customers, given that it would only increase the value of the game offering, no?
Diablo III would have likely already been cross-platform if that were a simple case of just wrapping it into the Bnet netcode and tunneling through- but I’d be willing to wager it’s likely limited ot authentication of the purchased product only, and not for transmission of continous gameplay.
I can’t argue that. Companies like their greed and exclusivity even off the backs of 3rd party vendors and consumers.
What games are being made without cross platform these days? PC to XBOX is all the rage. Blizzard clearly chose to limit it. There was no reason it didn’t launch with it, besides the fact Blizzard said no. Microsoft and Sony for that matter have been screaming yes for over 2-years now when it comes to cross-play.
TWO EXAMPLES associated with the company in question.
“Yes, after months of waiting, Blizzard has finally launched crossplay into Overwatch on all platforms. Cross-platform support is now available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch as part of the matchmaking process”
Warzone has cross play.
“This means that players on the PS4, PS5, Windows, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X/S can all play with each other. … There are lots of benefits of Warzone being cross-platform.”
If you still think it’s Microsoft’s and Sony’s fault there is no helping you.
The vast majority of them. I’d be willing to bet if you made an extensive list, the number of NON-cross platform games would far exceed those you can. Go ahead and make that list, I’ll wait. Unless they’re made by Microsoft, the vast majority of Xbox games are still not Cross-Platform. Same with many others on the other platforms.
Blizzard clearly chose to limit it? Do tell what their financial incentive for doing so would be. I’d love to hear your take on this.
Uh, so the one game you mentioned (Warzone) is cross-platform, and that’s somehow proof that Blizzard is denying cross-platform play?
My buddy has an xbox but trying to build a pc currently, luckily i built mine when the 5900xt came out but it really sucks for him. if D2 ran on it though you could have a lot of mules going at once, or at least BO barb etc
So why does Sony let me play Call of Duty zombie mode with my buddy but I have a PC?
I even have a friend who has purchased the game(D2) for his playstation and another copy for his PC, he does not like PC, only bought the game on PC to play with other friends.
Anyone here think they did this intentionally to sell more copies of D2 instead of just giving us cross platform?
I would also point out, it seems like most BIG game companies (not small indie ones although I’ve seen indie games with cross platform) are doing cross platform as the standard finally. The future is now.
Actually in an interview Blizz said they chose not to make it cross platform because of UI and controls.
I wasn’t aware of that. Do you have a link to that interview?

Can’t post links so this is the best I got
crossplay-cross-platform-multiplayer/?amp
Thanks for that. I wasn’t aware they had made the decision based on the control/UI difference- but it makes complete sense to me why.
Good to know it wasn’t something “nefarious” like some are suggesting.
Releasing a game in 2021/2022 without cross platform is just a failure. Cross platform is the next generation of videos game. If Blizzard cant make it cross platform it will dies very fast.
