The game uses between 5GB and 5.5GB of VRAM when in a game. No matter if you set your resolution to 800x600 or 2560x1440. Graphics on low or highest. Resolution Scale to 50% or 200%. 5GB to 5.5GB is where it’s in a game at no matter what.
Guess what blizzard ? Not every GPU have a VRAM of 8GB ++ (DON’T YOU GUYS HAVE CELLPHONE?) all over again…
In this current shortage of GPU it’s very hard to find a replacement , i was lucky enough to get one (AMD 5600 XT 6GB Vram), the GPU runs the game super smoothly everything maxed out 1440p 150% resolution scale no issue there. the GPU can take it. what it cannot take tho is the absurd amount of VRAM the game is demanding…
Which causes the game itself to hard crash whenever I exit the game to create a new one (you know this is a critical aspect of the game , being able to do magic find or trading or rune farming or cow farming). Also prevent me from using ANY other apps on my PC , no steam no discord no browser (even with hardware acceleration turned off in those APPS D2:R still triggers the VRAM limit overhead of the GPU and kills itself AND taking those apps away with it (IE they hard crash aswell).)
Before you tell me there’s an issue with my PC , no there isn’t D2:R is the only game i’ve played in recent years that does this. I’ve played Cyberpunk 2077 maxed out 1440p while watching a stream on 2nd monitor without any issues with this GPU…
I’d like a refund but for some reason " None of your orders are eligible for refund
Make sure you are signed into the correct account." is the automated answer i get…
Solution ? Add a toggle in the option to either use the NEW rendering engine and audio engine OR use the Old rendering engine and audio engine.
THERE IS ZERO REASON why i would have to run both at the same time for a “smooth transition if i wanna press the G button” if the cost of that is to crash my game and prevent me from using any other apps on my computer, ruining my overall experience of using a computer…
Fairly certain if this was an option the VRAM would sit between 2gb-3gb which is reasonable which is what most games uses anyway. AC: Odyssey… AC: Valhalla… Cyberpunk 2077… Borderlands 3…
I have this issue too, i have a 4GB card and this is maxed out 100% running D2:R.
This is the only game that does this…its currently causing lots of artifacts to show up, then after 15 mins running at 100% of this, causes my card to give up and crash.
It has been happening to me too and I am using the 3060ti. It uses all the 8gb vram, artifacts then crashes. Vsync doesn’t do anything. The settings says I am using half of my total vram which should be around 4gb. It use to but lately it has gone wild and just maxes out before crashing. I sent a ticket and all they said was to delete my drivers then reinstall which did nothing.
Have anyone in here had any luck so far with this issue? I’m having the same exact problem as OP and many other users, so it’s not a matter of our hardware fault at this point. Game starts working correctly and after 15 or 25minutes VRAM goes to the roof, black artifacts appears and boom. Hard crash.
It would be nice to know that Devs at least will take a look into this in the near future, instead of forwarding us to the usual system checks that -at this point- we all have already do with no luck.
Not me… I have 4gb vram and I run 3 instances. I have a ryzon 5 6cor 3.5 with 16gb ram and nvidia GTX 960. My monitors are fairly old and only max at 1900x 1200. On average I’m at 95% vram used… Some times I crash. But not lately as I figured out how to save 1% vram(not launching internet browser). I watch videos with my vlc and it only takes about 1-2% of my vram. O_o
Putting instances in retro view reduces the gpu massively… But dos not affect the vram
same here …constant crashes ,online ,offline …you name it …the worst is that the game crashes everything in my Pc …not fun at all…AND YES it only happens with D2r…
Jesus Guys the thread is back from 2021 where covid pandemics made GPU prices skyrocket all gpus past 512Mb vram costed over 2,5k$ bcause ppl were mining cryptocurrency…
nowadays even the basic turd RTX 5060 has 8GB of vram please stop complaining you game on soviet toasters
D2R requires at least 2 gigs of VRAM to run. It was not even a huge amount when D2R was released. 4 years ago mainstream GPU’s already had that much if not more and when 2 gigs is all your GPU has D2R will make do with it. I could run it with a then 8 year old GTX 760, no problemo!
However the game WILL make use of more then 2 gigs of VRAM when there is more!
I run D2R 75 FPS vsync in Legacy graphics with Intel UHD 630 (reports 128MB dedicated VRAM but 8GB shared) on a laptop today no problem. This GPU can’t be better than what others mentioned
