Crash after copying over original .d2s file

I followed the recommended steps on the forum and after copying my .d2s file to the saved games / Diablo 2 Resurrected I get a repeated crash with 103A7247-EEE3-46AD-9D78-554251BB8FF9. Not sure why.

I think you need to copy more than just that one file. Copy all of the character’s associated files.

Also, is that a “clean” saved game, or was it modified?

Hey there,

Does undoing the changes work to resolve the issue? Should only need to copy the contents of the saved games folder. These are located here:

C:\Users\stsebring\Saved Games

As TimberWolf suggested each character will have several files. Ensure all are copied instead of just 1. Such as:

name.d2s
name.key
name.ma0
name.map

Side note, make sure that you do not delete or modify any of the existing contents of the D2 Resurrected saves folder. That’s where the settings file is saved which the game uses to open with your user preferences.

Let us know how things go. Cheers!

It’s been a while, but I have two copies of the files, 1 of them should be clean the other might be from a D2 mod. It’s been a few years so hard to say.

Yes if I take the files out of the folder it loads up normally. I’ve tried with two different copies of the files. However, it does appear I have a few more files than what you have listed.
name.d2s
name.key
name ma0
name.ma1
name.ma2
name.map
name.udi

I don’t recognize the *.udi file. Don’t think that is an original D2 save game file. The rest are fine. Maybe try without that file. Otherwise, I’m out of ideas.

Even with removing the UDI file it still crashes, if it’s of any benefit, it crashes at the point of connecting to Battle.net.

Hey again,

It’s possible the mod corrupted the files. I’m afraid there is no way to undo corruption once its happened. If removing the files works to resolve the crashing it may be best to go ahead and do that.

Thankfully Diablo 2 (2000) will remain up and the characters should still be usable there so long as the game client is still installed the same way it was before, and the file corruption did not cause any problems for the game install itself.

The last ditch effort I can think of is to download Hero Editor V1.04 and see if it loads into that. If so, maybe try to unmodify the character. If it doesn’t load in Hero Editor, then the file itself may be corrupted.

Hero Editor still runs in Windows 10. However, you can’t edit the D2R save game files. I tried.

Will give that a shot, since nothing else is working. Worst case I start over, thanks all of you for the recommendations.
