Cow Portal Reuse

Basically, how does one open a portal to the Cow level. I got my feet wet on Normal but right after I returned the server went down and when I logged in it was gone (amazingly) Looked but couldn’t find anything to open a new portal.

Have the NM leg but want to make sure I can use again. Thanks.

I think you can just go back to Tristram and get another Wirt’s Leg.

make a portal, complete the level.
make new game, get another leg, rinse and repeat.

AND they fixed the bug where even if you kill the cow king you can continue to make games, so, run cows till you’ve had your fill.

Was that a bug or an intended feature?

Unlimited cow levels is a feature of D2R.

they confirmed that it was a bug that was fixed for the release of D2R, at least… thats what was ‘said’
killing the king was never supposed to lock you out, but it did…
Makes me question why it was never fixed all those years ago but… eh… its fixed now lol

Ok…thanks…makes sense. So, every time you use the Portal you have to get a new leg for the next run?

exactly that. once your done, make a new game, get a new leg and continue forward.

And most importantly, Have fun. XD

Just remember that the difficulty you get wirt’s leg from must match the difficulty of the cow level you intend to run. If you are running normal cows, you must get wirt’s leg from normal Tristram, not nightmare or hell Tristram.

And to piggy back on this, you can only have one copy of Wirt’s Leg at a time, period. So if you’re holding onto one from a different difficulty you need to drop it on the ground, go get the correct one and create the portal, then pick the other leg back up and put it back in your stash.

I was happy to see all sorts of socketed items drop in the cow level, but I really enjoyed the silliness of the whole thing.

More Ovaltine, please haha.

And @syst3mshoq

Back before LoD (the expansion) when the game released into version 1.0, you could kill the Cow King as many times as you wished with no penalty. He had the best drops in the game typically, so this rendered almost every other part of the game obsolete. Blizzard decided to remove the ‘unlimited Cow King farming’ in patch 1.02.

Couple of fun facts while we’re at it, in 1.0, thorns was VERY good. You could have a thorns paladin and Diablo would kill himself by hitting you ~5 times. Immunities didn’t really exist until 1.07 (the rare instances of super uniques having immunities beforehand). Synergies didn’t happen for skills until 1.10, respecs from Akara weren’t a thing until 1.13 and you couldn’t buy mana potions until patch 1.10.

1.09 Is largely considered by many players to be the best patch in D2 history, while I agree it’s one of the best patches, in my opinion 1.05b was THE best patch of D2, not many players got to expierence or remember 1.05b, I absolutely recommend giving it a whirl!

I’ve been playing (on and off) versions 1.0, 1.05b, 1.09b (ctc isn’t broken like it is on 1.09d) and 1.14. These are typically the best patches.
