one website says she has a 1/11 chance to drop it. Maybe i’ve just been unlucky but haven’t seen this rune yet. Thoughts?
pretty decent drop for nm countess, there’s no way she’s dropping anything close to um every 11 runs tho… i dunno who came up with that but it can’t be right…
1 in 11 is the hellforge drop rate.
The Hell Countess droprate I believe is something like 1 in 196.

can you repeat this quest more than once?
The quest cannot be repeated but it is completely separate from the special rune drop. The quest opens a chest that drops gold and not much else.
The countess herself is who/what drops the runes. You can kill countess as often and as many times as you like for rune drops, much as you might kill Mephisto or Baal over and over.
okay so it’s an elite character at hellforge that drops UM when I defeat it?
Sorry, there are two separate locations being confused here.
The Countess in Hell difficulty is located on the 5th lower level of the Forgotten Tower in the Black Marsh of Act One. You can kill her as many times as you like, for a buffed chance at mid level runes up to Ist. She has an associated quest that is not related to her dropping runes; Kill her as often as you like.
The Hellforge is a quest in Act IV River of Flame. You can only complete this quest once per difficulty, and on Hell it has an equal 1 in 11 chance of dropping a single rune between Hel and Gul (that is, there is a single guaranteed rune drop with an equal chance of being any one of the eleven runes in the range Hel through Gul).

pretty sure she can drop up to Lo on hell difficulty if my foggy old brain remembers right
you are right but Lo rune is only for her monster drop, not for her rune special drop
her rune special drop caps at ist rune
its about one ist each 300 runs

Yes but he had conflicting information pointing him to Countess when he really was wondering about Hellforge without knowing it.

not all googled responses are from 2021/2022 tho some are from very outdated patch era’s

Of course it is. New players can’t be bothered to use a browser to search for answers, and sure as hell not calculators for fpa, fcr, fbr, fhr…anything!!! They need it simple or else it’s stupid. Pffft where have you been?
I do agree that new players should be free to ask questions like this btw. Just a bit of venting about ‘obscure, and unituitive things’ being simplified.
The one that said, yes Um can drop (from the actual rune drop Treasure Class) and Lo from normal monster Treasure Class is correct, as well as Ist being highest from rune drop TC.
I often ask questions in here as well to get a more straight forward and clear answer.
It has a secondary affect of developing a more positive community.
So let’s not try and find the negative of someone asking for help. Either help them if you know the answer or move on. It’s not hurting anyone.
Besides, if one person has a question, chances are they arnt alone. So answering the question in turn will help many people.

rune drops are different than regular item drops.
every enemy in the game has a chance to drop any rune, but the odds are infinitesimally low. they’re higher in nightmare and hell, respectively. in hell mode, the fallen in the blood moor outside the rogue encampment can even drop a zod, if the stars align and RNJesus is with you.
so the countess has that default drop chance for a rune, and it goes all the way to zod.
on top of that, she also has another chance at a rune drop. it goes up to like ist or something, i’m not sure.
she also has a slight chance to drop another rune. the most you will get from her is three, i believe.
if you’re trying to farm high runes, hell cows and chaos sanctuary are a lot more efficient simply because higher number of kills means more chances for a rune to drop.
