Right now everyone know the breakpoints, but there is no .txt file or easy way to mod it. I don’t know if you support the offline modding community. However, they do help keep this game alive.
With AI, changing the hard code calculations into a class specific dumb down soft code break point for FCR, FHR, and FBR should be do able. It wouldn’t change the game at all. Keeping (edited 25 ticks per sec ). But it would be easier for you and modders to balance the classes. It’s a small change, but would open up many doors.
The skeletal framework of D2:R is the original game, and the original games hardcoded “ticker” is the 25 FPS it is locked to, even though the D2:R overlay is running at a higher FPS. Trying to uncouple values with breakpoints from the games hard coded 25 FPS ticker is likely a can of worms that I doubt Blizzard wants to open. A lot of games use the FPS as a measurement of time for much of the games functions, some newer games still do to this day. It’s a minimally resource intensive timing shortcut, and when you’re trying to squeeze every ounce of performance you can out of a specific set of system specifications (like the minimum specs for example), it’s a popular choice for game developers.
I get where you are coming from. They can keep the original 25FPS. We can currently mod poison damage length and chill duration using 25 fps. I don’t see why they can’t add to the charstats.txt with AI these break points.
They were arbitrarily chosen in attempt to balance the game. I just think it would be great to be an option for modders to easily change. Instead of finding harder work arounds. I could nerf warlocks breakpoints and give them a different play stile. Instead of changing the skills individually.
Imagine being able to slow every spell from a class that was too over powered. Or Force a class to need better or worse FCR on their gear! Making shields less useful for a warlock that uses 2 handers. It affects so many things at once. You can keep all the skills and items the same and nerf or buff an entire class. It gives so much freedom to the developers and the modding community. They might be able to actually balance the classes.
First off Diablo remodded forces you to first own the game before using their mods. Secondly, they made RoTW only as an advertisement for their newer Game! They want people hyped about the Diablo franchise. Why do you think Mine-craft and many other games support modding? Ladder is still only Blizzard.
Because almost nobody would play vanilla game forever. And even if game would be that good, enviroment people play in matters. Old battnet was infested with cheaters. Tppk hacks, maphack, c3po, Blue moon hacks, pickit, god ode, botting and duping, on top of that battle net had very dumb stuff like your characters would expire and you could not even make games faster enough because of a ti bot measures.
Because of all these thing many players left and relocated to private d2 servers in 1.10, 1.11. A lot of them had also modifications. People who played offline played a lot of mods too, d2 has quite a lot of popular ones.
So i see modding as something which kept this game alive in certain times before we got D2R.
So you see modding as something that kept the game alive while the game was still alive… so you think that 3-4k players leaving the play pool of 50-60k or more back then kept the game alive…
Please stop talking non sense and give me a real reason as to why a mod that had a few thousand players that have since not paid into d2r or d2 warlock, tell me how these people are keeping our d2r alive. This isnt your highschool debate club where you can just say non sense and people will just agree
Not sure where did you get 3-4k players. Just Median mod played tens of thousands of people. I pretty much dont know anyone who didnt play with plugy modification offline also. Big and small mods kept people playing giving them improvements or new stuff to experience. And that pool of 50-60k players online? How many of them were actualy bots? I would say siginificant portion.
D2 would be hardly that popular now without modding. I knew countless of people who left battle net becaus eof how bad situation was there. And those people moved to offline or private server playing modifief versions of game because blizzard stopped to care about d2.
You dont believe it? Fine, I dont need to change your mind. Its how I see it.
I didnt talk about D2R. I talked about situation before we had D2R. Now obvisouly D2R has plenty of changes and more clean servers. But also quite a lot of poeple is enjoying playing D2R mods too.
i dunno, today on jsp i’m noticing a lot of botters. man has 10 bers and 20 Los up for sale. in HC. that’s just not normal. he’s also a mediator. yup, mediators on jsp are also botters. that’s how scummy it gets on there.
They are not all botters, some of them are just manipulating the market and taking advantage of the fact that 2 different economies doesnt always match pound for pound when it comes to prices, they buy in bulk and sell with profit. Besides most botting is done on the old pre RotW ladder and Blizz still havent closed the character transfer loophole, instead they left the floodgates open for botters flooding the RotW market. Fortunately this will be closed soon and you will no longer be able to transfer expansion ladder chars to RotW ladder.
oh you use jsp… so you support RWT and people buying items.. yet you have an issue with bots? You are a hilarious individual.
You do understand that all FG is bought using real money right? That is how it enters the ecosystem.. you are already breaking TOS if you trade there.
You clown.
D2jsp started in 2002 as a JavaScript based botting platform (Probably before you were born) so I guess I should excuse your absolute ignorance and clownish behaviour.
From my limited but slowly growing understanding of the D2 engine, breakpoints have to do with the animation engine of Diablo 2 itself, which is why they cannot be easily changed (if at all). Diablo II runs it’s game logic at 25hz (25 ticks per second, which was the framerate of the original game). Despite the fact that D2R can render at higher framerates (60fps, 120fps etc), the gameplay timings still follow the original 25hz model (and yes, there’s a lot of magic numbers involved to make that work). This means you can only ever improve the speed of an animation in discrete increments of 40 miliseconds. They’re pretty much cooked into the core of the engine, so it’s definitely not a small change but a very low level change that is likely to break more than it fixes. The entire game feel of D2 also relies on this 25hz model.
Honestly, if you really want to make a D2 mod that completely changes the animation engine, you’re unironically going to have an easier time rewriting the entire game from scratch and just essentially making your own d2 clone with whatever tick rate you want, than you would trying to mess with that stuff.
I understand what breakpoints are. But the fact that an amazon uses more frames than a sorceress to do the same movement is a choice, not a hard fact in the animation. The Fact that a specific number of FCR reaches a break point is also subjective. It could have been a different number to reach that break point. It was a choice to balance the game.
25 ticks per sec is too hard to change and I don’t expect to change. but the minimum cast frame rate and those numbers you have to reach could change.
