Yeah, I don’t know why the entire game doesn’t level up with the player.

I know they want to force players into specific zones but why, it’s not an mmo where you need to worry about spots being taken or full of players.

I would have just made all monsters scale and tossed those unused maps in the garb ^.^

I don’t think this would work in Diablo 2. Everyone will just do Cows again. But we agree, in spirit, leveling 90+ shouldn’t be as painful as it is.

if you get bored of cows, you could go literally anywhere else.

myself I clear the entire game before relogging to reset the foes. I skip the areas that suck. Takes like 10-20 minutes if im slckin’ Adding a few higher spawns doesn’t change anything for my style of play.

Maybe for folks who close the program and open it again to run a single instance over and over.

Bots will love it I guess.

I think ALL of Act 5 should be Level 85

Think about it. The end of Act 4 is 85 so why not start Act 5 at 85?

Would be nice to have the entire act to farm up!

If Act 4 is 85, why wouldn’t act 5 start at 87?

Agreed. I didn’t know about the uber portal trash not being 85 but they absolutely should be bumped up. Over lvl 85 makes even more sense considering the effort required to open the portals and it would be a nice progression from the overdone Baal runs. It’s kind of shocking this isn’t how it functions currently.

I kind of agree with the sentiment, but that creates a 4th difficulty in effect.

You people are probably not going to like what i suggest, because I will suggest making the game a bit more “scarce” and harder, but here goes:

I don’t like the idea of making a lot of areas level 85. I do want players to visit many different areas, but I don’t think making all of them 85 is the right way to do it.

I think good level 85 areas are Chaos Sancturay and Worldstone Keep, because they are hard, especially the Worldstone Keep with different monsters every time. I think this should be the spirit of all level 85 areas - they should be hard, not ancient tunnels and mausoleum and pit (yes, pit sometimes spawns deadly archers, but so does every area in hell).

I think it would be interesting if the “easy” areas like Pit and AT were level 82-83 (you could still get your TC87 items from there, just not all). Level 84 and 85 areas should be reserved for the hardest content, with level 84 having some convenience advantages, like being a waypoint area, easy to find area, or perhaps having poor density (for the memes i think Mausoleum can be kept 85).

I generally agree on the Uber portals to be 85 (they cannot be higher, because that would make leveling to high 90s, and especially to 99 much easier)

I also very much dig the suggestion to make Tal Rasha’s false tombs to be 85, but their difficulty needs to be upped a bit (perhaps instead of just melee skeletons, mummies should be surrounded by skeleton archers and mages as well).

My biggest wish, is there to be some incentive to farm certain areas in a party. Like, most of 85 areas to often spawn restrictive immunities. So level 85s would be for party play and extreme late game builds, while 82-83-84 would be main focus for solo play and not maxed out characters.

Having written all that, i’m going to just list all the high level areas as I see them (including unchanged, for completeness)

82: A1 Cave 1, Hole 1; A2 Stony tomb 1, Claw viper temple 1, Halls of the dead 3; A3 Flayer Dungeon 2, Travincal; A5 Frozen River

83: A1 Cave 2, Hole 2; A2 Stony tomb 2, Ancient Tunnels, Claw Viper 2; A3 Arachnid Lair, Great Marsh, Swampy pit 1, durance of hate 1&2&2; A4 Plains of Despair; A5 Halls of Anguish

84: A1 underground 2, pit 2, crypt; A2 Maggot lair 1&2; A3 Swampy pit lvl2, 3 temples, sewers 1; A4 City; A5 drifter cavern, icy cellar, halls of pain, halls of vaught

85: A1 mausoleum (^1); A2 maggot level 3, False tombs (^2); A3 Swampy pit lvl 3, sewers lvl 2, 3 temples; A4 river of flame, chaos sanctuary (^3); A5 red portals, worldstone keep 1&2&3, throne of destruction

-1 mausoleum needs to stay 85 for the memes. It’s super low density won’t make everyone rush towards there
-2 IMO tombs are not hard enough for 85. Need a bit of difficulty buff. My choice would be replacing skeleton warriors with archers.
-3 I am afraid that with suggested change, chaos sanctuary will dramatically increase in popularity. Perhaps it needs a very slight “hardening”, but i’m not sure, that’s just a veteran player in me saying.

That would be completely uselss to go there then.

An example of area level 83 right now is Durance of hate level 2. Check out boss drops from there and be surprised, it’s not much worse than AT & Pit (same treasure class Act 5 H Unique C). Just missing the 3 ilvl 87 items; and the very few ilvl 86 items only drop from bosses & minions, not champions - Tomb Reaver, Stormlash, Crown of Ages and Mang Song’s Lesson.

Obviously not so many people want to do Durance level 2 because of dolls and because many better options are present. But with my proposed suggestion, something like durance level 2 stops being the worst option.

What I really don’t want to see is in D2 is powercreep. Opposite is better.

Get out. You think doing 5,000 baal runs is a fun and exciting way to level…?
