The game will die pretty quick imo if we’re stuck with the same meta we’ve already been playing for eternity.

I’m of the opposite opinion.
I think the game will die far faster with a constant meta shift.
We don’t need another Arpg with a constant shaping meta, we already have PoE/PoE2 and D4 for that.
yeah, thats a big problem. Compared to other arpgs, D2 totally lacks of endgame content too. Its normal, D2 is 20 years old. I hope blizzard change that in the future.
This is why shifting the meta is a big risk though. If the meta remains the same, people will return every so often for the old, fun meta.
If the meta is in constant shift, it now directly competes with games like D4 and PoE2 which also have constant shifting meta.
Good luck retaining players while directly competing with PoE2 and D4, lol.
That is a good point. I guess you´re right. For me, we need more Endgame content… or a complete act 4, that would be cool.
Pretty sure there will be more patches with some balancing or content (not a new act), in the future if the game does well.
Personally, I would like the game to stay the same at the beginning and then any additions at next ladder resets will be more than welcome
They have to. Its cool that the old core gamers would play the game forever now. But really much “new” players wouldnt i guess.
I’m happy with the Meta I’d Just Like More choices for gear and rebalancing of merc and Old runewords or just new ones added in general. with some Minor skill balancing making less used skills more viable. I Like they way D2lod is and there’s other things that could be improved before changing what’s already good.
Well to be fair, this is a remaster for old core players first.
New players will always be bothered by older mechanics. Thus, they will be more happy with D3 or D4.
So, if you change too much, new players will still move on to D4, but old core players will leave D2 then as well. Balance act.
Agreed.
I played so many different arpgs with a constant revolving door of metas each season and it’s kinda meh.
Definitely doesn’t keep me hooked. And if you get one season that could be considered “perfect”, it’s gone in a few months.
Maybe, if you’re lucky, a thing or two from that season is patched into the core game but it won’t have that feel ever again.
I like to take a game and master it to speed level runs, beat my time(s) or play hardcore chars and challenge myself in different ways and not have the game challenge me with faux difficulties (mapping, meta changes that take 15mins to learn, etc). That’s where I personally get my enjoyment and have done so for 2 decades, to each their own.
I did quite a bit of poe mapping and map crafting but it really ends up with loot explosions and a char that can 1-shot screens so who cares. Same with d3 grifting and torment levels…ugh.
Oh boy, I get a constant uphill pushed and powercrept map to fight while being time-challenged for 15mins. Or this “difficulty” is the “hardest” so you get loot sposions and can farm full screens as fast as you can click.
If you enjoy that, good for you but it does nothing for me (in an arpg); in a mmo like eve online, because of how large the active community [was] and everyone is on (1) server, I can see the need for meta changes there.
That is totally true. But i guess when blizzard see the playercount isnt really good, they have to do something.
Something like taking the money and not spend a sigle more buck.
This game doesnt need any change to the gameplay.
Not sure they have to…!
Like I said, D2R is no competition for D4, and will never be.
I think by this time, D4 will already be out, so no need for updates.
I would personally be ok with minor balancing changes.
For instance:
Grief requires one HR more, to be more balanced.
Slight buff or nerf of already existing uniques or runewords with the intention to not make the game easier, but create some more alternatives in equipment.
Also, fixing of many bugs. Fend Bug, AR Bug, etc etc.
Really? it’s hard enough to start a ladder season as a non-sorc. Grief’s fine for cost when you consider Melee’s disadvantages in PvM.
GRIEF is by far (!) the most OP melee weapon in the game.
The price for it is hilarious. Think about the runewords that require a ZOD, or
great epic and ultra rare uniques (stormlash, etc). They cannot compete at all.
So…!!! It makes sense to balance it out.
People return for new things too.
Player base surges every time a new Season hits D3. Problem is D3 has no longevity, so it only lasts a few weeks.
D2 has longevity.
It’s already going to compete with those and other games - it’s an ARPG releasing in 2021. The thing is that everyone who wants to play D2 has already done it, sometimes for a decade or more. You can look at D4 and PoE2 and go “Ohhhhh that’s new, never done that before… man this is gonna be great.” You can hype it. You can get excited for it. I can’t do that for D2:R. “Ohhh better graphics and the same things I’ve been doing for 10 years!” No, doesn’t work.
Heh you should try it now. The latest changes made it a lot harder to do that in PoE.
I think the worst possible outcome for D2:R is to be what D2 is now. The lights are on and there’s an occasional ladder reset, but that’s it. And that’s D2:R’s likely future if nothing happens after launch.
Honestly, I can see slight tweaks to RWs and skills to allow for more build options but the issue I have is that requires such a delicate touch and current blizz isn’t great with balancing.
I’d be hesitant to see what they do with it and yeah, I dunno. Hard to speak on as everyone has a different opinion on how to balance/numbers/etc.
