COH or Fortitude for Uber smiter?

Hi folks … pls chime in but I’ve done numerous research and it’s a mix feedbacks regarding coh or fortitude for Uber smiter .

Considering resistance isn’t an issue which one is better ?

I like Chains of Honor due to the extra resistances, remember Uber Mephisto has an aura that will reduce your resists by a further 100 than the 100 that Hell difficulty already imposes.

coh for the resist though sadly it’s the only build that uses coh so it’s a very big ask to waste a ber on it instead of using towards an enigma or infinity.

Fort will scale better with Grief. Otherwise, CoH is better, as the +to skills will help boost smite damage. I’m using CoH myself with 1 hard point into Smite on my Zealer, as I hadn’t run across a second Lo yet, plus I like the extra resists and the Ist MF bonus.

unless you are playing solo you could have got 2 Lo + for the ber in the coh

Ehh. I figured I’d run into another Lo sooner or later. I cubed two Sur to make the Ber. I try not to trade unless it’s something I really need, or something I buy with a mid rune. I’ll use CoH on another character when I come across a Lo next. It was a huge upgrade for my Pally since he was using (and did his first Uber with) a Superior Scarab Husk Smoke. And again, I like the MF bump, I’m running 200 MF with a 20 Gheeds, misc MF SCs, ptopaz stealskull, 23 MF +1 Pal Skills +14 resist all ammy, and an awesome +10 MF ring that has 10 resist fire/cold/light 26 poison, +4 to min dmg, and 5% LL.

If resistance isn’t an issue then fort for sure.

Neither of those, treachery’s fade with light resist passive will boost your lightning res to 95% with level 1 salvation against ubr mephisto btw. Ezpz.

coh is better than fort here but then again when you’re killing ubers you are mainly relying on Crushing Blow procing so items that improve smite damage are quite wasted. both coh & fortitude are unnecessary, if you want best in slot I would much prefer enigma for teleporting + strength to use all your gear. easy as a pally to get enough res from the rest of your gear especially with um hoz.

Personally I use duress on my smiter. Coh and Fort just expensive and not needed. If you only use the char for ubers there’s really no reason to have expensive gear when cheap gear does just as well.

Lets look at the benifits for a smiter using coh or fort.

Coh : Dol Um Ber Ist

  • 2 skills (doesn’t do much for a smiter, slightly better holy shield and smite damage is about it)
  • 200% damage to demons ( does not work with smite)
  • 100% damage to undead (does not work with smite)
  • 8% life stolen per hit (does not work with smite)
  • 70% ED ( more defense is always good)
  • 20 str ( more str on gear means more points you get to put into vit)
  • replenish life +7 ( helps a bit )
  • all res 65 ( the best part of this runeword for a smiter)
  • damage reduced 8% (second best part of this runeword for smiter)
  • 25% mf ( pretty useless for uber smiter)

Fort : El Sol Dol Lo

  • 20% chance to cast chilling armor when struck ( this will help your defense a little bit but not much, and the damage it does is negligable)
  • 25% fcr (useless )
  • 300% enhanced damage ( does not work with smite)
  • 200% enhanced defense ( defense is always good )
  • +15 defense ( yay for defense)
  • x to life based on char level ( this is a very good mod for smiter)
  • replenish life +7 ( again this is not great but not bad)
  • +5 to max lite res ( not bad for vs meph)
  • all res 25-30 ( best part of this runeword for smiter)
  • damage reduced by 7 ( pretty lame )
  • 12% damage taken goes to mana ( can help a lil with the mana burn but not much)
  • +1 light radius ( useless)

Duress : Shael um thul

  • 40% fhr ( great mod to have )
  • 10-20% enhanced damage ( does not work with smite)
  • adds 37-133 codl damage ( does not work with smite)
  • 15% crushing blow ( exactly what smiters need)
  • 33% open wounds ( exactly what smiters need)
  • 150-200 enhanced defense ( yay more defense)
  • 20% slower stamina drain (pretty useless cause we have vigor)
  • cold resist 45%
  • lite res 15% ( these are not the best resists but they are decent and it only costs um rune)
  • fire res 15%
  • psn res 15%

yep unless you plan to deck out a char that is primarily used for smiting only or you’re simply just over abundance of HRs, smoke, duress, treachery is fine for smiter definitely, the important piece is actually the weapon grief which boosts his damage by a huge margin.

Currently I’m using Smoke but I do want to step up my Uber game up and can still use same armor for other char such as my bow Zon

I always use treachery for my smiter imo its a bit of a waste to put chains on him but I suppose you could make one and just put it on him when you do ubers then stick it back on whoever you really made it for.

I reckon use treachery and spend into an exile instead that’s what I do anyhow

The ED on fort does work with smite, just lying character screen doesnt show it. CoH is still better until you can hit 315% light res without it (using treachery prebuff). im hitting 95% light res (under conviction) using fort with tgods and 10 hard points in res lightning, i’m also a 1 point zealer so it help a lot there anyways.

Ok fair enough I had to look this up because most places say it doesn’t work, but i guess it just doesn’t show it in the tooltip. 100% ED seems liek a lot but it is negligable in ubers since the vast majority of your damage comes from crushing blow. Just curious why do you need 315 lite res? My smiter is only about 200 (after treach buff) and has max lite res under conviction.

320% (with fade) is to hit 95% after the hell penalty + meph conviction (-225) if youre going for 95% light res w/ fanaticism. you need 240% res (before fade) if youre just going for 75% res with fanaticism.

edit: just rechecked, idk why i thought his convicion was -120%, its actually -125%. So it would be +320% with fade

No it isn’t. Several builds use it.

Never bothered to make one for my uber smiters… The paladin can do it with crap gear.
A Sacred Targe with 4 perfect diamonds, Treachery, Guillaume’s face, Goblin toe, Ravenfrost, Highlord, Black runeword on a scepter, draculs/Laying of Hands, Life leech/mana leech ring and string of ears (optional: life tap wand)

Good to go.

i should have said good build i guess.

Bis for most sorc builds
