So after speaking to several of your reps that were either completely misinformed, or blatantly lied to me, one finally admitted that my current chat ban in WoW Classic applies to Diablo 2 Resurrected, even though i’ve been told several times that being chat banned in one game should have no effect on another.
Basically I bought a brand new game to be unable to chat or trade or do half the things that make D2 a multiplayer game… I cannot interact with anyone due to a penalty in another game, which you said shouldn’t happen.
Just another example of how inept and awful this company is. I am incredibly displeased with this situation, and very surprised at your complete lack of competence with your last few releases - its all about the money and it shows badly.
At least we no longer have suggestive pictures of women in WoW or able to /spit on others to hurt their feelings.
The rep was either confused (maybe thinking of D2 (2000)?), or misinformed.
If you get a Silence in any Blizzard game the penalty is applied at the account level. It can impact your gameplay elsewhere too. It even keeps you from making a game at all in D3. So people who got long term chat Silences in OW or WoW can’t even play D3 at all.
This move to apply the Silence at an account level was implemented back in 2019 I think.
Here is a post about it from the D3 forums from last year talking about it.
This is quite intentional. They mean to Silence you in other games too. Apparently some people did not take it seriously when Silenced so they increased the impact of the penalty. It is still not back to the level they used to do - which was a total game suspension or perma ban, but it is not a minor impact on the account to have social functions removed.
Wait… what? Ok, ok, i can even be fine with that you are muted across ALL blizzard games for misusing chat. I mean, clearly you were being offensive if you got a silence, and chances are, thats how the person will be in any chat, But you say you can not even play D3 if you are served a mute? WTH…
I mean, is there anyone that thinks this is ok? Their game, their rules, right? Still bloody pathetic to me. I truly did not know about this one. Wow.
Well maybe they took it a bit too far with this - I am essentially being punished in a brand new game just because it happens to be on the same platform as their other games.
I can’t even chat with my real life friends in Bnet because of this and they think it’s ok?
I already put in a ticket to demand my money back, and I am getting really fed up with this nonsense.
This chat mute thing is completely draconian and too harsh.
It is technically a bug that people can’t even play D3 when Silenced. BUT it impacts only a very very tiny number of people so they have not fixed it. I asked for updates on it every few weeks for over a year.
In the end, there are a handful of people who managed to get Silenced so many times their duration is essentially perma - which is fine when it impacts social functions because they earned it. Not so good when it removes ability to even play a game at all. Blizz does not seem to think that is an issue that needs solving given how small that number is.
Anyway, I have not heard anything about it in a long time. Not even sure the current Community Managers for Diablo know about it. I have not asked them.
I doubt it’s as few people as you think it is, since it is VERY easy for a bunch of people to report you at a whim i’m sure more people have been hit with this kind of nonsense.
Bloody mess of a company with decisions made by blind monkeys throwing darts at a suggestion board
Oh they know about it. They just have no intention of fixing it.
Still, how the heck did the change not get QAed. One test account with a Silence applied. Test in each Blizzard game to see that it properly impacts social interactions.
Then again, maybe they knew, and did it on purpose.
I have a theory I can’t prove that D3 has a very old chat and social system that does not work with modern Bnet quite right. It predates modern Bnet. So if they can’t make it properly limit only social functions, they might have decided that it was ok to just make the game unavailable during the Silence. It impacts a VERY tiny number of people and the penalty USED to be a suspension. So yeah. I don’t know.
