Hey guys,
Can someone explain to me the difference between the shield’s “chance to block” and the stats tab “chance monster X will hit you” or “chance to block monster X”?
Example: my HoZ shows a 75% chance to block. However in my stats tab it says 30% chance to block monster X.
Does this mean if I want to achieve the ACTUAL 75% chance to block, I need a lot more dex? Is that worth it? I had initially put almost all my points into vitality but I have 2 respecs left.
Thank you all!

Shield display blocking and your characters chance to block are different.
The defense rating will show you the relevant information for the creature your fighting which will scale differently based on monster level.
The short version is the shield block magic effect on your shield increases the shields value (not your character value) and the Holy Shield skill will increase it again, not add a flat value to your character, and then the game decides if your character is capable of max block based on Dex, Character level, and the modified Shield value.
I’ve included a link to a block calculator so you can play around with it yourself.
Thanks for this information! I read through this all and it was helpful.
I am left wondering if it is worth it to get the character chance to block at 75% with enough dex points vs cont to dump in vitality?
Yeah, but later on.
When you start teleporting on top of Lord De Seis in Chaos Sanctuary and his band of merry fellows with Fever Aura then your going to get instagibbed with low gear.
That’s when you decide personally if its time for max block for your character / playstyle.
Your not going to hit the 35% on Holy Shield until your skill level 19 which is either Level 96 if you sacrifice points in resistances and go solely for this or you get + paladin combat skill gear. So it won’t ever be a “perfect” stat spread while there is still room for your character to grow.
Which is why I suggest deciding for yourself when exactly “later” is and until you get there just worry about life and resistances.
If you really do want max block earlier in order to do some keys then your always free to respec later on, either way.
Once you have full build and have the damage to start Baal / Chaos running for EXP outside of solo farm games then go max block to make your life easier because of teleporting on mobs and the danger.
When your at that end game when your just looking for perfect rolls / charms. Then worry about the difference between 33% holy shield / 35%.
