Cant play with this Lag Spikes

From my observation I get about 3 - 4 games without spikes, then suddenly I get ddos by the server itself.

I’m hardwired and I tested a couple of other games and those are fine, no lag spike nothing, I’m running 5600x CPU with 6800xt Midnight Edition GPU which is overkill for the game itself so my build isn’t the problem…

That leads me to some conclusions… The game itself is the one doing this and I’m guessing its their anti bot system that they shadow implemented, if its not then someone is duping since the only time this happened in LOD was when people were duping High runes and Gears, or it could be that they removed servers that made the game this way since the last 2 updates, well whatever it is I’m done playing for now till this is fixed, and knowing blizzard any type of work that’s needed to be done is too hard for them.

I really like the game but when they can’t even fix the game cause its too much work for them you will end up with more bots than people. Overall get it together blizzard and thanks!

this game is unplayable. We should report them in mass to the BBB. Selling a game that is faulty is fraud

Bumping this. I have experiencing the same. Location California. Unplayable lag spikes.

My only fix is to remake games until I get a lag free instance.

TLDR: OP overpaid for outdated, mediocre computer components but comes here to brag about them in some bizarre, thinly veiled ragepost about internet connection issues unrelated to their inability to afford quality computer parts.

Your assessment of the situation seems a bit lacking of knowledge on your part, Monday-1877. Stating system specifications isn’t bragging either. But good job trying to self-inflate your internet ego.

I run a 4090. This is not a hardware issue, at least not for me.

Disregard what Monday said.

The root of the problem is the garbage netcode the game uses which is HORRIBLE at handling errors that happen with less than perfect connections. Significant ping jitter and ANY amount of packet loss are the culprits.

Playing the game on anything less than a perfect connection will lead to problems because of the garbage netcode both the original game and D2:R runs with.

Could Blizzard address the problem? Absolutely! Will they? Doubtful.

How could they do it? Double or even triple the data stream and send them out of phase to add redundancy. Also add a parity stream to offer an additional level of error correction. But that involves them doing “work”, which they’ve shown they don’t want to do for this game.

The netcode mostly worked fine back when most were on dial up for two reasons:

1: Dial up modems have error correction built into them in order to combat line noise. This eliminates problems between the computer and the ISP.

2: When the majority of people were still on dial up, DDoS attacks were almost unheard of, because the masses didn’t have enough bandwidth to flood the larger internet backbone pipelines, which can easily happen today.

I get what I call skipping…not even lag but every now and again I seem to just skip or freeze briefly. I tried some of the fixes but none work

This is due to your game client “view” and the Battle.net server “view” of your position being out of sync. The server “view” is always the correct one on Battle.net. There is a periodic position check, which if they are too far apart, you’ll see your character “warp”. Frequent actions such as interacting with objects like opening chests, picking up items, clicking a waypoint, melee attacks and also teleporting/leaping resync the client/server position view.

It happens when I just run. I do not even have to be doing anything

FYI i bought my cpu and gpu when it was the peak, when GPU’s costed 2500-3500$ and i got lucky going up against bots, but you wouldn’t know that so overpaid wasn’t a thing for me, also you cant even find a CPU back then and if you do get lucky it will be full price or at least 450$ for a 5600x, so pardon me while i kick you off your horse. I also got to use my GPU for almost 2 years then i returned it before my warranty ran out from AMD themselves so technically i won. No wonder nobody likes mondays and I’m talking about the week. :joy:
