Can't pick up hellforge hammer

Hi everyone, hope you can please help.

Got to the part where you kill Hephasto and he dropped the Hellforge Hammer. The character doesn’t pick up the item no matter how many times I’ve tried.
I have inventory space, I’ve even unloaded all weapons and keep trying. As much as I insist the character says: “I can’t do that” or “That’s impossible”.

My soul stone is blue, I haven’t changed difficulties or character. I’m playing solo in an offline game with a level 29 Druid. I tried saving and exiting, tried talking to Cain, went back, killed Hephasto again, he drops the hammer and the character still can’t pick it up.

Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions or has encountered this.

I ran into this bug, I had to use wepon swap and pick it up with my empty weapon space. It was a strange bug.
