Can we still use mods for D2R?

I’m not a big fan of queuing, so I decided to play the single player mode.Just curious, if not connected to Battle.net.Is it possible to use mods like MAPHACK BIG BOX etc? I don’t want to trade with anyone else either. There is no unique equipment that is worth trading, except for runes. Single player in 8 player mode sees almost everything.

Should be fine as long as you don’t use them in online

You don’t need maphack in single player since the map remains the same between runs.

There is a stash mod but it does look inferior to PlugY on Nexus.

Other mods like Path of Diablo and Median XL won’t be supported due to VV and Blizz removal of TCP/IP. It is a shame these are great pieces of extra content for the game.

yes i realy realized old D2 is more fun thank D2R.

Yep, that’s pretty sad…

There are many mods we can add to make D2 more fun, except screen solution. now i am just wait till this game become cooler then Blizzard might allowed us like 15 years ago just add some super fun mods play single game.

I vote for no mods…for 2 reasons. 1 : We see old outdated mods regularly cause problems with WoW. 2: Lazy players that wait to beat the game in 5 minutes, dont want to earn it all. Beating the game as it is is much more enjoyable

I’ve tested this, and I can verify that -direct -txt mods don’t even work online. I made a quick mod that gives 2 skill points per level and started the game from the bnet launcher with -direct -txt command line argument. Works with an offline character, but doesn’t with online.

Safe to say, that you can use at least direct txt mods without worry :slightly_smiling_face:

thank you! :grinning:

Extensive mods like Snej, Path of Diablo and Median XL are actually expanding teh game quite a bit.

PlugY was a godsend on OG D2 since you did not have stared stash otherwise so transferring items to another character required opening another instance of the game, I mean mods are why D2 stayed relevant for so long.

Not talking about cheats like maphack here btw.

good for you and your opinion but its not a vote and you are wrong

… mods are and always have been a staple of diablo 2… common false argument against mods is all mods do is give you thousands of uniques and make the game too easyt.

most mods made d2 far harder… some introdyuced new classes / maps.

Mods for single player are fine. You’re not affecting the online community/game in any way. Mods / cheats for ONLINE play are strictly prohibited.

You may not get banned right away, but they will eventually detect and ban you.

Yea… heres the thing about that.

I have toyed with modding a little so far, but not much. But, i am not sure about this setup they have.

Are we truly supposed to make multiple private exectuables to run our mods, is the application smart enough to bypass all the mod files, as a lot of stuff is handled server side at the time of playing online. Are we supposed to continuously remove them, or change the command line args in launcher, or etc etc.

It just feels like a not thought out at all, clunky get up. But, its not like og D2 came with mod instructions or any support either.

There really no support or articles relating to this information. So I did propose a mod forum topic here, but i doubt we will see it, i don’t think one person replied.

That said, there’s a tonne of mod sites out there, and ALMOST all the data is still relevant (or close enough with a little insight).

There are mods for D2R for single player already. Not going to point them out as I believe that is against ToS but if you google it you will find them and they do work, side by side with the regular un-modded-play-fairly online portion of the game.

Oh yea. there’s many. Hell, had my own up and running day one. But, i wonder myself, Is it against ToS to discuss mods? Would seem strange, as they made sure to let us know we would be able to mod.

Clear evidence i just clicked right through it. O,o

Ahh, so should be no need to worry then.

I’m hoping for mods that fix the inaccurate original graphics but I doubt you’d be able to use them online :frowning:

I don’t understand this line of thinking. Mods are generally meant as a tool players use to extend the life and enjoyment of a game, not a cheat code to shortcut to the end. Most people who mod games are the hardcore fans that are looking for something new since they’ve had their fill of everything else.

Also, why do you care how others choose to play offline? The concept of “earn” in a piece of entertainment is bizarre to me. Diablo is a way to spend some free time, it’s not about life lessons. I get that you personally aren’t interested in changing the original experience but what compels you to restrict others to your own play style?

Yea, it couldn’t get much further from the truth.

Sure, there’s a lot of people who will throw on some ‘cheat’ mods, and even they go remove them shortly after, cause its not fun, but for the most part, the majority, i don’t believe that crock at all.
