Haven’t seen a thread requesting this, though there must be one somewhere. The character sheet in this game sucks, plain and simple.
Essentially, it boils down to two sets of changes. One is to fix the bugs in it. For example, not displaying the effect of global ED on Grief damage.
The other would be improving it. Like showing damage per second instead of just raw damage, which then takes into account attack/cast speed. As well, chance to double damage should factor in. Estimated hit chance based on AR should reflect -x target defense or ignore target defense, etc.
Doesn’t seem like a lot of work for Blizzard to at least fix the bugs. After all these years…
LOL if a calculator on a website can calculate the break points and get it right, then I’m sure Blizzard can too. As for DPS being a mark of “severely dumbed down modern games,” I don’t even know what that means.
But hey, I’d be happy if they just fixed the bugs in it. Anything else would be gravy.
it means having dps shown conditions players to just look for bigger dps numbers instead of actually understanding their stats and the gameplay mechanics surrounding them.
you’d no longer have to actually look at a piece of equipment to know if it’s an upgrade, just pop it on, look at dps and see if it went up or not.
showing dps is the first step to dumbing down a game.
Yeah, I see your point but am not really buying it. Played PoE for years, has DPS on character sheet, but that game is way less “dumbed down” than any other action RPG. Mechanics are kind of insane compared to D2, D3 or GD. It takes a lot to plan and execute a build idea in that game. Would make it even more confusing to not have DPS on the character sheet.
That said, it isn’t absolutely necessary in D2 as it is in PoE. But would rather have it than not. I see no downside. Currently, if I want to take into account attack or cast speed, I use a website calculator then multiply to find DPS. I see no reason to have to use outside sources.
I don’t think I want a full outright damage calculation, but something that accounts for attack speed or cast rate I wouldn’t hate if it were on a toggle.
I know in past iterations of games while leveling it was hard to tell when switching between weapon types if a weapon was stronger if the speeds were dramatically different. in most End game or near end game scenarios we have a good idea of whats an improvement
