I find it really limits the gameplay that you essentially have your right click button tied to what is a swappable passive skill. At least for those of us who use quick cast, can they be made into just one button push skills that “run in the background”? This would not unbalance anything since you could still only have one aura active at a time, but would free up the right click to use for another combat skill.

Tell that all the other classes without an aura…
i have quick cast on for all my caster spells as hammerdin: hammers/tele/holy shield/holy bolt/charge
you leave your aura as your active spell, and with the quick cast you just need to push the key to activate rather than switching and right clicking.
its changed the whole way i play hammerdin. before quick cast i was holding shift whenever i wanted to cast hammers and now i dont have to.
i dont even right click for teleport, i just hit the hotkey and he casts teleport while i have whatever aura active(the game briefly switches my right skill to teleport but automatically switches back to the aura)

That’s already there. You assign a hot key to the skill (or town portal), active “quick cast skills” in the options, and you’re done.
I use it to cast Holy Shield, Town Portal, Charge and Weaken. I press the right key (or mouse button, I have several of those), the thing is cast and the right skill slot switches back to the aura near-instantly.
such a great feature for hammerdin builds.
Last I checked, they can get auras too from various runewords.
I know about quick cast, I use it too, but when you use an attack basically every second then that gets tedious. Easier to bind it to the right button and use the aura instead as a background skill.
Yeah, that’s useful.
Tedious how? I customised the right button to cast Charge, for example. And it goes back to aura about as fast as it takes my Zealot to reach his target 
HS and TP are in some of the other custom buttons my mouse has.
I’m confused now. Aren’t we saying the same thing, but with different words?
You can just use quick cast on the left side, no?
Buffing a shield is a moment thing, so don’t think this is a major QoL for pally
