I still have my old notebook from 2001-2009, my first Diablo 2 stint. 17 accounts, 12 of which were mules, do we all remember the tedious task of logging in periodically to keep our characters from expiring, and lets not forget the realm down punishment for daring to try to log in and out of your mule characters too fast to speed up the process and get back to actually playing the game. It’s 2021 and Blizzard has a chance to actually make a diablo game where you are not punished for collecting loot in a loot game. Something they somehow still got wrong in Diablo 3, despite having the audacity to shower you with hundreds of legendary and set pieces a day. This game 100% needs to have similar stash space as diablo 3, 10-15 stash tabs shared with maybe 3-4 personal. There is no reason we should have more storage space in a MMO with soul bound gear, than an ARPG with an economy centered around picking up everything of value to try to build trade value for items you need for your build. Hopefully we get vast improvements in this area, if not ill enjoy my nostalgic single player run through the game and let all the purist boomers lag the servers with their constant mule swaps.
We’re getting more than double the personal stash space, plus one shared stash of equal size. For a single player that doesn’t want to play multiple characters, thats over four times the space to use for a single character. I’d say that is definitely a good start comparing to what the original game offers. There is a moment in the deep dive where they showed a total of three shared stash tabs, which I have no idea if they are implementing this when the game releases. If they do even at a later date after release, they may come by ways of achievements, purchasing them with game gold or even as a convenience package for a small one time fee.
As the game is right now, you can still use mule characters to take advantage of their personal stash space. The big question is how many characters can we create?
Lets see how this change affects us after the game comes out. If there are still a lot of complaints about limited stash after the game is released, then the devs might open the flood gates for additional tabs. Lets not go overkill on things before the game is released.
Is this topic an early April fools joke?
very constructive comment.
Sorry the information is already out there… it’s been out there for a month now…
We’re getting shared stash space… this shouldn’t even be a discussion.
Also characters are permed now… there’s no reason for Blizzard to delete a 48kb character any longer for inactivity… it’s already been stated as well.
Diablo is the only looter that absolutely makes a joke out of storage space, and its puzzling why they do it, Diablo 2 obviously had technical limitations, diablo 3 they screwed up with its design foundation limiting their ability to correct it. And here we are dealing with it again. Diablo 2 arguably has more loot that could be considered valuable than diablo 3, and we have no space to put it. One way or another we are going to make it happen, be it 20 mules or a nice stash given to us, why make us choose the annoying route.
Well I think there are some that have a bit of an issue with hoarding items instead of trading them for things they might want to use or ‘consume’.
The past several seasons in Diablo 2, if I find something good that I’m not going to use, I liquidate it down into runes.
I see you are the type that takes 3 words out of a 200 word comment and pretends that was all that was said. I’m well aware we are getting shared space, my concern is how much space are we getting and will it still result in the awful mule management.
Most likely you’re going to be muling. Right now they’ve showed us a screen shot of 1 extra stash tab and 3 extra stash tabs… chances are, it’s going to be greater than 3… they haven’t decided yet, but once alpha’s release and more feedback is received, they’ll realize changes need to be made.
If we’re only limited to 3 extra shared stash tabs, then yes, muling is going to be a thing once again… because each character has their one personal stash space… not sure how many characters total we’ll be able to create but it’ll be minimum 8 like in the original… so that’s 8 personal tabs + 3 Shared… so 11 total tabs which is fair, it’s not great, but it’s literally 10x better than the base game.
As far as increasing stash size more than what we’ve already been shown, it’s something they are going to do cautiously, because if you give something to players, you can’t take it back without some serious negative feedback. It’s one big reason that I feel Diablo 3’s power creep situation spiraled out of control.
I think having as many tabs as Diablo 3 right out of the gate would be overkill.
I dont think it is, in a game where drop rates are so low, why on earth shouldn’t you be able to collect everything? trash or not d2 drops are different, and throwing away a sigons set or isengards just to save room is a crap precedent to set. People are going to do it anyway, they save no server space either way, people will just make 12 mule accounts like the old days, i dont see any negitive impact of removing the need for that to occur.
It’s already been discussed that the shared tabs should be purchasable with in game gold, and be a huge gold sink…
The first like 5 or 6 tabs should be easily obtainable but after that it should cost hundreds of thousands of gold for extras…
I was thinking maybe a max cap of 20 shared tabs would be nice considering how big items are in this game, it’s not like every item takes up either 1 or 2 squares like in Diablo 3.
There will be a compromise I’m sure, players are going to want to horde items in this game as a lot of the lower level gears are viable across all classes.
What about multiplayer though?
If they don’t let us create unlimited new characters (which I doubt), then the the storage space we have available would go from (theoretically) unlimited in D2 to very limited in D2:R
We either need to be able to create 100+ characters or get 100+ stash tabs to somehow make up for that.
I think the people who are worried about the limitation are those that hoard items that carry over to non-ladder.
Personally, I zap everything every ladder reset. I suppose with the shared stash I should be able to at least save some gear if I ever did want to fire up a non-ladder toon. (Doubtful)
Hard to always find a buyer quickly though, at least in today’s D2 market. So you can build up quite a large bank of tradables if you’re farming harder than you’re able to trade.
I find myself farming in my trade games haha, as I wait for buyers to join.
Yeah that’s not going to be a problem with D2r at first.
Ppl be giving the rights to their firstborn for vmages ext
I farm in my trade games as well. I usually trade off items I don’t need for runes, a mediocre defense Harlequin Crest, for example. If no one bites after a game or two, I’ll drop down to the next lower rune. I’ll often sell something for less value than what it typically goes for just to get rid of it.
Now if I get something godly, I’m a bit more of a stickler about getting what it’s worth.
Right now I just give em away so that people can play gg or at least feel like they are.
But online now is a deserted paradise filled with bots brimming to the bone with loots they probably will never use/sell
