So what’s going on with this game? We were told there would be more updates and support, but it’s gone virtually crickets aside from a ladder reset every now and then.
Why would you remake this awesome game and then let it slowly languish? There is a large contingent of folks that won’t play D4. Give the people what they want.
The game doesn’t make Blizzard money. Would you work for free?
They also told us that updates would slow down… Which they have.
It’s less of a remake and more of a remaster. It was a great way to draw out the old retired-from-Diablo players in hopes of also selling them on Diablo 4. Once Diablo 4 released, further development for D2:R pretty much ground to a halt.
Far too often people know what they want, but don’t know what they need.
What a lot of people want = More more more, faster faster faster, now now now!
Sorry I was “that guy” who dragged you down from cloud nine and planted your feet back down on the ground. Hey, you never know, maybe @PezRadar might drop in and surprise us all… Keep dreaming!
D2R is like, currently the most dead maintenance mode Blizz game. WC3R, HotS, hell even SC2 are getting PTRs and updates (I like to joke that Pez is the driving force behind the HotS updates since he loves it so much ) but they went through their long periods without updates. Admittedly SC2 was being updated by a group of ex-pros/pros and not Blizz themselves for a while, but the latest patch from a couple of days ago is apparently from Blizz themselves and not the balance council.
Don’t get your hopes up though of course, all I’m saying is that maybe D2R is in its dry period of patches and perhaps it will one day see more than the janitor bumping the reset button while he’s making his rounds. Maybe. Perhaps. probably not
And right there is likely one major contributing factor on why they don’t bother… They most likely don’t have anyone at Blizzard that knows the game like the back of their hand. We’ve seen how they “balance” their other Diablo games… By adding more power creep, which can quickly snowball into a huge numbers mess. Do we want that, do we NEED that in this game? No thanks.
Heh yeah, well the balance council isn’t without their faults either. Lots of conflicts of interests regarding nerfs/buffs, one’s race, tournament winnings (mmm that Saudi money) heh.
But yeah I’m wary of Blizz theoretically turning their attention back to this game especially since it wouldn’t be Vicarious Visions at the helm of it anymore, not that they were perfect either given they added Mosaic (though do I think part of it was that they were moved to D4/laid off/left after that patch so didn’t get to iterate on it) and their questionable changes to shapeshifter and Whirlwind IAS mechanics.
Regular updates are over and done for, that’s for sure. Now a rogue sneak update every great once in a while is still a possibility, but likely nothing extravagant.
Look at the POE example. GGG has made literally BILLION$ by selling non-PTW content.
Things like stash tabs, currency tabs, map tabs, cosmetics, etc.
It won’t change the way the game plays, but it creates a potentially massive revenue stream for Blizz. Monies that could be used for bigger and better things.
Like finishing Act 4. Or creating an actual end game?
But with Blizz being bought and sold more times than a Vegas h00ker, looks like there’s not been a management team in place long enough to recognize a solid business opportunity…
The only thing I would like is more character slots and maybe stash tabs. I don’t want the game to change too much just maybe some minor QOL improvements.
You’re right. I don’t want updates to this game by people who will turn it into another variation of lightning fast progression Diablo 3 by pouring loads of power creep into the game, which I know that is what you want.
There are plenty of ways to update the game without changing the majority of the gameplay as it exists now. Top examples being QoL improvements such as consumable stacking, increased stash tabs, increased gold stash, loot filter, some new crafting recipes - including one that uses rainbow facets, and a new endgame that uses the standard of heroes. These kinds of changes will greatly enhance the game. Additionally, continued improvements to the lobby, game search, and chats would be welcomed. Just some examples.
Oh yeah, nerf mosaic damage by whatever brings it in line with the other S-tier builds, and actually do something about the spam.
they could make it so that non-ladder is playable “as is” once you buy the game , but make every ladder cost like 10 bucks (or something like that) in order to play.
of course this means that every ladder needs to bring something unique, similar to PoE leagues, not just some crap like “all monsters have +5% extra fire damage”, or we riot
