Can we get banned for using a VPN?

I’ve been reading some posts of people getting unjustly banned and I’m worried it could be because they used a VPN. I never use a VPN when playing Blizzard games, but my antivirus has a VPN built in, so I worry I might accidentally turn it on while playing. Should I worry about this? Can you get banned for playing D2R with a VPN?

Thank you.

Another one of those old battle.net concerns, D2 did have issues because of the servers but since D2R is using the new client it has no concerns with VPNs since it’s account tied. It’s been brought up in other communities a few times but no they are fine.

With VPN use being a widespread commonality, it would be extremely harsh for Blizzard to instaban people for VPN usage. If they have the ability to detect VPN usage, they can simply block any detected VPN connection, there’s no need to permanently ban for VPN usage. They had to do this with the original game due to mass spam bots, but they also had to slap a two week restriction on the IP as well.

To be fair to Blizzard here, they can ban you for any reason at all… or no reason. You have no recourse due to the ToS and EULA you agree to.

I use a VPN regularly for years and play blizzard games with it on and off. Have never had an issue.

You can only be banned for running trav

Isn’t VPN the only thing allowing the Chinese players to play?

Can chinese people even use VPN without the government goons knocking down their door?

Yes of course, easily so. This is 2022, not 1952 when people didn’t have any info about China. At least they are more free than land of the free in terms of going out on the street and getting bullied by ones with different skin colors.

That’s probably because its the chinese doing the discriminating there.

Or because there’s no skin difference to make fun of.

Anyway, I can’t believe that 2022 and people still actually believe that China is some kind of dystopia where people will go to prison for using VPN. Cursing the leaders maybe, but using VPN is just something extremely minor for the police to even care.

I’ve seen enough to call China under the CCP just that, a dystopia.

Zero covid is certainly dystopia. But to believe in such a false thing as “police will visit you if you use VPN” is beyond me

Every country has its own dystopia problem. No country is innocent.

Right, so being thrown to jail for cursing a leader isn’t dystopian at all in your view. Interesting.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with D2R.

Depending on viewpoints. Westerners just take it for granted and western politicians never truly sue anyone for defamation. In western society, defamation and false accusation = free speech. In asia, not just china, we take defamation so seriously that the punishment is usually much harsher than western countries.

The rule of thumb here is no criticizing without evidence. Defamation and false accusation is a real thing here in asia, unlike in the west.

Look what they did to Alex Jones.

Also other dystopic aspects of China are Programmable currency. Surveillance state (Worse than U.S. and U.K. combined) Baseless accusations such as Canada and the mass graves that upon investigation haven’t turned up a single body. Patrolling testing centers with assault weapons, Constant cover ups protecting CCP image. Social credit score.

But Democrat party is no better.

Social credit score is actually a great system, only if the political aspect is left out of it. your score should be low because you avoid tax, be a dick to neighbor and society, commit crimes… no argument with that because the community needs fewer of such people around them. But cannot use the bus because you don’t like a leader, it’s dystopia.

The problem is not with the vpn per se. The issue is when you don’t stick to one region and you bounce with it all over the world. The system will flag your account for multiple logins from different regions.

I don’t think the chinese players can do anything else about that tho. To play d2r, it’s compulsory to use vpn.

I understand. They should invest in a proper vpn…choose a region and stick with that.
If now he logs from India and in 3hours from Morocco of course a red flag will pop up in Blizzards’ system.
