I thought ctrl forced clicks to be a move sort of how shift prevents you from moving when clicking.
I can’t check now so maybe that was in D3.
EDIT:
I guess that would make it:
Shift → Ability only modifier key
Ctrl → Move only modifier key
Either that or they could let us bind more abilities to left click. On my trapsin all I can put there is shockweb? I used to be able to run mindblast on LC with a minor txt file mod on OG d2.
Nah just tried, you can still attack with ctrl held.
I use fireblast to get around lightning immunes.

It’s kind of dilemma.
One side, bugs are/were feature and other side continue to fix the bugs what the formely Devs tried but the company was shutdown.
For something like this though, the feature exists in D3 as an option; there’s a modifier key that makes your clicks move only when holding it.
This is a case where people used a bug to get at functionality that the devs didn’t think to design in at the time, but then the functionality wasn’t replaced when the bug was fixed.
There’s no reason to revert the bug but I think adding the support for a modifier key makes a lot of sense; it exists in newer games and it’s a logical foil to the shift modifier that does exist in D2.
That or just add an ability called “Move” that is assignable to left click.
I would say a Move keybind would be grand for KB/M users. In conjunction with the skill bar that controller users get of course. I mean, the current KB/M UI is…dated. It didn’t age well at all. Nor did the lack of QoL features. Conversely, controller users need a force stand still bind so they can actually aim without having to hold a skill button down first.

Yep this is a huge oversight. It’s very much needed.
this is all they need to do for this issue…they have no right to say it would change the balance of the game or any other bs. i shouldnt have to work around the issue by using throw ability and hearing the constant ‘i cant do that’ error messages.
Cheap man’s way to do it:
Change left click to Throw.
It isnt perfect, but its better.
we need a left click move only… it’s 2022…
