Can someone steal one of my quests?

I was at act 3 doing my quest, a paladin lvl 57 showed up, goes to harrogart, and 2 min later i had the notification like a quest is updated and he leave.

What did he do?

Quests can be ‘completed’ by anyone in the game, even if you are not at a point to do that quest. Completed might not be the best description of what happened. He probably killed Shenk which ‘updates’ a quest on your side. Since Shenk is now dead you can not complete the quest and you will have to make a new game to complete it.

On the other hand if he had gone and found Lam’s tomb in your game while you were in A3, you would also get the credit for the quest without doing anything.

Killing bosses and making it so you need to re-make a game to do that quest is a normal thing. If you want the privacy password your games. Otherwise get used to re-making the games regularly. Re-making the game has the side effect of telling people where you actually are so they are more likely to come join you.

I don’t mind at all someone taking “my quest”, i will not make a full run from act 3 to 5 so i don’t care.

I thought if he did the quest, i will not be able to do it when i arrive at atc 5.

Stole is past tense. The title should read “Can someone steal one of my quests?”. Not being a jerk as I figure English may not be your first language. Just making an attempt at helping you improve it.

The answer is: yes.

If you have not completed a quest and someone comes in the game, they can indeed complete any objectives that you have not in that game. There are a lot of act 3 games where someone will come in a kill Mephisto and leave everyone that started the act without the ability to complete the quest when they get to that point.

They can kill mephisto if they create another game right?

That is correct. People join 6-7 player games because it increases the chances of finding magic items. Mephisto is an example I used because he has a good drop rate and is relativly easy to get to.

sounds like he probably hit pindle and shenk and dipped. It’s not really gonna affect you.

For those interested in doing this, it’s counter-intuitive when magic finding items since your greatly increasing the difficulty for such a small bonus in items.

Drop rates increases dramatically when a party is together, not simply because you find yourself in a full-house game. This is intended; loot systems wasn’t a popular thing yet back in 2000s like it is today, so they had created a system that promotes team play.

You still have an increase drop rate when you solo in a popular game, but it’s small and because the difficulty of that game is also increased dramatically, it’s typically not worth doing MF runs because you’re not getting enough in return for the increase in difficulty.

THANK YOU!!! I can’t express how much your post has in value. Unless you’re level 99 with every item BIS and the perfect magic find number, your post is perfect.
