Can I play D2:LOD with D2:Resurrected?

I think this is a unique post.

I have purchased the resurrected version, but right now my PC is broken, and my laptop is too weak to run D2R. Can I play D2:LoD without purchasing D2 & D2:LoD separate from D2R?

Many thanks!

If you want to play the original Diablo 2 LoD, you must own both the original game and the expansion. Although D2:R is a remaster of the original game and expansion, it’s still a separate game. You’ll need to purchase Diablo II (2000) and Lord of Destruction (2001). Keep in mind since they are separate games, they are also separate online game servers, so you won’t be able to play your Battle.net D2:R characters in the original game, or vice versa.

Also, here’s a guide on enhancing the original games graphics a bit with Sven’s Glide Wrapper:

You can try to play d2r with legacy graphics. Default toggle is G

Yes, along with this, set resolution to the lowest you possibly can, set resolution scale down to 50, and all other graphics settings to low.

I sometimes do this on steam deck, and my projected battery life goes from 2.5 hours to 7+ hours, GPU at 15-25% usage.
And if you’re running the old graphics, it still looks great.

I actually slapped on an almost free desktop for a kid who wanted to play D2R in HD (not legacy)

Specs
Ryzen 1600
A320 mobo
16 GB DDR4 3200
2 TB mechanical 3.5" hdd
HD 7850 from 2012! just install driver only w/o the adrenalin software
windows 11 64 bit

basically the only thing i did was flash custom VBIOS for the HD 7850 that supports UEFI. most of the h/w were hand me downs but i advised kid to get a new quality PSU and its all good ^^ we installed D2R and tested it thoroughly with the hardware wif the following settings

res scaling = 50% - i think that means internally the game is 720p?
limit fps = 60 fps
setting = medium
kid plays on a 40" 1080p/60 LED TV

basically tested it and got ave 45 FPS ish so wow if one only plays D2R u can get by with ancient h/w provided u are willing to compromise on res/setting! the cpu/gpu temps are excellent and hope this sharing/info helps ^^
