Can Blizzard take legal action against websites that promote sales via ads?

Selling items in D2 is against the TOS, so why is it allowed to be advertised via google (youtube)?

They can, but there’s no profit in it for them. They would very likely lose money trying. I’m sure the lawyers for the task wouldn’t mind, it would be free money for them. As soon as an item shop gets a cease and desist, they close up shop and open up another in a different name, then the cycle repeats.

If Blizzard had any interest in slowing down botters, they would restrict the purchase of the game to only bank cards and credit cards, both of which require proof of identity in order to open an account. This would make it easier to track who is buying the game. Botters/RMT shops are using gift cards and throw away email/Battle.net accounts, which helps them remain anonymous.

Better question, why does it continue to be allow to have these SPAMbot idiots in game. I don’t know if they are actually bots or players just logging in to advertise their website. Either way the accounts should and could easily be removed. It would take just one employee to spend 10 minutes every week to just clear out the trash.

heres one solution for a way to combat bots

That isn’t a solution. It’s trying to import Diablo 3 Kadala GACHA garbage into the game.

I was referring to Blizzard suing Youtube, not the shops themselves. If Youtube/Google actually cared about legit businesses being advertised. It seems negligent on the part of Youtube/Google to allow it. Blizzard doesn’t condone the sites themself.

Youtube is the median for which they can advertise to more people. In doing so it might get people to purchase items from those sites, in which case the one who bought something could potentially get banned for using said site to purchase items from.

I really just hate seeing the websites on Youtube, it’s my main complaint, I can block the websites from being seen, but ive already had to block at least 3 now. hahahaha

Wouldn’t that be a grand battle of the lawyers? Microsoft vs Google, over ads about selling items from a non lucrative game. I don’t see it happening. Too large of a risk to protect something that makes them little money. Google would shift the blame to the seller, which any victory for Blizzard would likely net them nothing, while losing money on lawyers. It’s a lose/lose situation for Blizzard.

Yeah it doesnt help that microsoft has been bleeding profits lately too on a whole, with their gamepass price increase, and massive layoffs.

Oh well
