Can anyone explain this?

I found a level 25 Aerin Shield with 43% all resists on it, and 4 sockets. Its was grey with 4 sockets. I turned it into a nice Spirit shield with 78% Cold,Lightning, and Poison resist, and 43% Fire resist.

Just a few moments ago, I found a lvl 15 Aerin Shield with +17 all resists, no sockets and its “magic” (blue).

I’m just curious as to why the 2nd shield is classified as “magic” (blue) and the first one I found was not.

Edit: just found a 3 socket 24% ehanced damage 37 attack rating Aerin shield and its grey too. Still puzzled as to why that +17 all resists w/ no sockets got classified as a blue.

All Resistances, Enhanced Damage, and Attack rating are three “auto-mods” that are possible on Paladin shields.
I’m guessing that auto-mods are not considered magical, hence why some of your aerin shields are gray rather than blue.

Sometimes items roll magical (blue) when they drop. Sometimes magical items roll the “artisans” affix which gives them sockets.
