Back in the day I think I heard some say that it does. Can anyone confirm?
There were a lot of myths artound D2 back in the day, the items are rolled teh moment they drop, not when they are identified so no.

if only the stats on the item didn’t get set when it was created on drop 
the stats are decided right when the item drops, it doesnt matter what you do after that. it already knows what the item rolled. my dad fell victim to the misconception back in the day with torch rolls. he thought that the person with the most MF should Id the torch for a better chance at a higher roll. when, in fact, the roll was decided before you could see the torch hit the ground.
