Hi guys, I just made myself a back flail, trying to gear up. Looking for a reasonable shield base to make exile, as well as gface and boots with crushing blow.

You’ll probably best off using dracs and hoz and save that rune to get a cheap grief .
Grief is where you going to really do some damage in Uber smite with g face

Thanks mate! yeah, since I’ve never made an exile I was thinking of trying it, especially since my only runes worth anything in ladder are ohm vex. But for efficiency and ease of success you are definitely right about best bang for my buck. Ill think on the idea of maybe pivoting away from the expensive shield haha, specially since a good base would require the runes I need for the exile anyway
the base is way more expensive than the runes for exile, so… and yes, the price of a reasonable exile is more than all the otherwise needed gears for a fully functional smiter
with pb and fana aura, smiter hits super fast. the only time I had trouble procing life tap was in trash mobs that they die instantly and my pally can’t land too many hits, also they run away so pally has to chase
you know there is a cube recipe to remove socketed items and keep the base, and I recall the official site explains that as, useful when the base is way more expensive than the runes, “like Exile”

Hey man,
I am also making a smiter. 
I made my first Exile 2 days ago but I am not sure it really helps with Über-Tristram. It does help a lot in Furnace of Pain and Matron’s Den, because with Defiance Aura, your defense could reach 30000 and your Act 5 frenzy Mercenary 20000. The mobs just can’t touch you any more.
However, it doesn’t help at all in Tristram since Baal, Mephisto and Diablo just have high elemental damage, high defense doesn’t help. And Teemo is right. According to my experience, an Exile costs in fact MORE than a Grief, because you need to pay at least a Lo for a decent ST or a VS, unless you accept to use a Sacred R or Zakarum (about 3Ists) as Base.
I have extra G-face and Goeblins Toe if you need it.

Thanks for all the advice guys, ill probably save the exile for non-ladder then. Would either of you part with a gface for a Lem?
also, I don’t have much in the way of runes to trade in ladder but I do have a Scintillating Jewel of truth (13 resist all, 7fhr) if its of use to anyone? I do have a vex ohm but am hoping to use it on a grief.

By the way, always pay attention to the exact defense value of a shield when you buy it.
Dont pay just because it’s a vortex. the defense of an Eth Vortex varies 273-337. The defense of an Eth Zararum varies from 253 - 289. It means an eth Zaka can sometimes have higher defense than a Vortex. If a vortex has less than 300 def, you shouldn’t pay a Lo or a Sur in my opinion.

i found this like season 1 ladder in the second week. i didnt think it was good but held onto it anyways for that you never know moment lol

Nah he’s on the right track with using Black for now. I currently use ethereal Death War Spike. I like Heaven’s Light Ber Jewel for a Uber Smiter. A high Astreon’s would be the best choice though. I wouldn’t go without 100% cb on any Uber Smiter.
