Bugging Mercs in SP?

Howdy,

Recently switch to SP after taking a couple weeks off D2:R to start playing HC. I can’t seem to be able to bug my merc anymore using doors. Was that “fixed” in the latest patch while I was gone? If not, does SP behave differently than MP when it comes to bugging mercs?

Cheers!

Patch 12.2 notes

  • Pets, Summons, and Mercenaries will now warp to a player’s location if they are far away from the player’s character

So implying they won’t be in a bugged state anymore? Aka targetable?

They fixed bugging your merc, yes.

Allright, thanks. Seems like they didn’t improve their health pool to compensate though. On nightmare difficulty (albeit with trash gear since this is my first HC character), my merc gets 2-shot by Andariel at L46. Not a good omen on how well he’s going to fare once in Hell…

It was a bug. Fixing it does not require compensation on their part. It only requires compensation on your part by means of adjusting the way you play to be less cheesy and not dependant on abusing bugs.

While I see some merit to what you say, I find it ironic considering so many people complain about how the slightest QoL changes would drastically change the D2 experience, yet fixing a bug that was there for several years just get a de facto “seal of approval”.

That being said, I’ve already adjusted my playstyle. It means that I’ll need a second damage type to tackle Hell’s ancient as opposed to let my merc handle any cold immunes. Or just get lucky with their mods and teleport my merc to keep him alive. I just remember Blizzard devs saying they would probably fix some bugs such as Trapsin bug (NHAM), but wouldn’t fix every bug as some became D2’s identity. Oh well, it is what it is.

They don’t actually. The “purists” were all up in arms about the removal of bugging mercs and ebugged items. They’re mostly in the acceptance stage of those things now. They’re still in the anger stage of the weapon swap glitch being fixed.

Ok, if that’s the case then, it falls within logic. I’m not out loud complaining about it, I was mostly confused to why it didn’t work switching to SP. It’s just hard to follow the reasoning that goes behind the devs decision at times. What the mercs done to them to warrant their wrath?! XD

We’ll see how balance patches go. Worth the risk to me. But that’s the way to go about things; fixing bugs is good imo.
