Bots figured out [TRADE] chat leak - DO SOMETHING DEVS

it’s one thing for lobby spam; you can hide from that by playing the game but for some reason [TRADE] chat is completely broken, uncontained and it leaks into [GAME] and some [WHISPER] channels. now all of my games are unlimited bot spam just like the lobby and to block them is slightly more labor intensive than finding people in the lobby list.

this isn’t 2001 internet anymore where the highest technology was monitoring click rates or timing chat messages or by making a list of chat filters. there are unlimited tech companies on earth who have incredible technology to observe/identify/question non-human actions. put a damn “I AM NOT A ROBOT” box into the game if that’s what it takes. how the hell are developers okay with this? it’s EMBARASSING. you don’t have one guy in the office who is like “i can figure this out, give me a week”. no other consumer industry is allowed to act this way.

also, the net benefit of banning all of these spammers is that you’ll sell a new copy of the game directly after the ban. it’s the reason d2 was a best seller up to like 2010

WARNING if you’re playing on legacy graphics; chat messages are a LAYER ABOVE THE GAME and a seperate entity. if you are in your stash moving items around and a spam message shows up and you click in the message box YOU WILL THROW YOUR ITEM ON THE GROUND OUTSIDE OF THE STASH. if your entire chat box is filled with spam messages it makes the stash a massive problem and they also removed the “N” button feature which cleared chat so you have to wait for the messages to disappear on their own to not throw your items onto the ground… very intuitive. pretty sure that’s why they hid the chat box behind the stash in the d2:r mode

Cant they just have an moderator that sitting in the “chatroom” sometimes that ban account that so obviously are spamming 3rd parts sites that are forbidden in the game? No doubt that that are bannable so. Are they to many or do they dont wanna ban them?

I’LL DO IT.
FOR FREE.
GIVE ME MOD POWERS.
i already spend a huge portion of my time in this game blocking spam bots and it only helps me. i’d be doing a service to the entire game if i could help other players from my time-spent

Has there been any official response about the channel spamming bots?

the only change they’ve made is that when you squelch somebody in a lobby, the actual block function works. before you had to go through a whole process to block people that was sort of unofficial. blocking accounts was just a standard option in diablo in 1999. this was fixed months after the current release.

a future problem is that battle net 2.0 has a limit to the amount of people who can be on your blocked list so just due to the sheer amount of spammers on d2 you can fill your blocked list up in a few days which renders it useless.

imagine if walmart had hundreds of people in every single store with a cart of items that they had just taken off the shelves SCREAMING into people’s faces and CHASING customers, begging them to buy things from them instead of the establishment and to disregard walmart… and then walmart just ignores it because the independent merchants bought 40 dollars worth of items.

it’s f***ing crazy

I think that’s just them trying to finish the lobby or fix it. Controlling the bots spamming it to death is their job imo.

They have the tools to deal with it we don’t even if the block list is working properly. Anyone else remember the screens of green text robots joining your game the second you created it spamming some item shop advert or and leaving?

Are they banning the spam bots? Why not let us know what they are going to do about it I wonder or are they just going to leave them like they left almost all the other people who abuse the ToS

the day that bots start whispering players who join lobbies is the death throe to this game. a lot of people have quit over minor things in the past but i don’t know what else could be worse than whisper spam bots. the chat functions in this game are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo terrible and so unintuitive and so clunky that i don’t know of people could make it past that. that would get me to stop playing when there’s just infinite layers of blue text over my entire screen for my entire time playing.

If people would quit using their services they wouldn’t have a reason to exist anymore.

The only reason they’re still around is people are still able to use them. As long as there’s money to be made they will be around.

I wonder how long they would continue if they got banned repeatedly. The new keys would eat into their profit margin pretty quickly I expect. Blizzard could probably make a bot to combat their bots and not even have a guy involved at all lol.

unacceptable. the only reason they’re around is that the developers refuse to find a solution. my phone knows when to block a scam phone number now. they did that because of the huge strain it put onto consumers not knowing if a phone call was legit. how does that happen? some guy figured out how to tell me it was a scam phone number.

figure out how to stop spam bots.

this isn’t a social service, it’s a paid product.

Oh I agree with you, but we have yet to see a blizzard actively ban bots. I have my own opinions as to why they’re reluctant to do so, but none of that really matters as the outcome is still the same.

I’m just stating the fact that they wouldn’t exist if people didn’t have the ability to use them in the first place.

I’ve personally never seen bot spam outside of the lobby. Might see the last 1-2 messages from lobby after joining a game but that’s it from what I’ve seen :man_shrugging:t2:

They’re too busy fixing IAS ‘bugs’ then to actually do something meaningful.

True enough but controlling that behaviour is a lot more difficult than just banning the most obvious breaches of the ToS
(like spamming the lobby to advertise a third party item selling shop)
Maybe if they where banning people the group mentality would change slowly who knows.

Just a matter of time if blizzard don’t act they will push their luck more and more as time goes on. Just like they did with the original game I expect.

I keep hoping they are just harvesting information before they do an enormous ban wave…

Unfortunately bots don’t care if they get banned. They fully expect it. The money they make off these sites outweighs the risk sadly. They can just keep buying burner accounts.

Also true but the price of the base game now will prohibit that behaviour eventually. Once the profit margin drops enough anyway.

Time will tell how all this pans out. We will see

One can only hope. I feel ya man

I don’t want a moderator sitting in chat either. Then they start banning people for being ‘‘offensive’’ or for supposedly using inappropriate language. Then this will feel like WoW.

Nothing wrong with chat moderation if its done right.

Maybe I’m getting old but I think it would be a fair exchange so you loose your ability to drop the nbomb or call someone a r tard so what lol. To be honest in this day and age people should not be being racist or swearing like a trooper anyhow. It’s 2021 man.

Have you ever tried to swear less? Its actually quite a hard habit to break

I think mods are a waste of time personally. However I do agree that worrying about not being able to say stupid things for fear of being chat banned is a silly cop out.

I still believe that a minimum lvl cap of 20 for trade/lobby chat would help a LOT.
