Any suggestions here? I came into hell full Blizz and was destroying anything that stood. Came into hell and got f’n owned fast.
Respeced into a blizz/meteor and that’s just not enough. With my gear I have almost max resistance but the offense isn’t there now.
Blizz damage is 1400 - 1516 and meteor is 955 - 1020 with almost max resistance in hell.
specs are:
BLizz = 20
ice blast = 20
Glacial spike = 8
Rest of cold is 1
Fire:
Bunch of 1’s then meteor to 20

Nightmare to Hell takes a bit to adapt, it’s just a lot harder at the beginning.
What does your inventory and mercenary equipment look like? I assume you’re around lvl 70, did you invest in fire and cold mastery at all? Do you use static field?
I personally don’t like Blizzad/Meteor for progressing through Hell, but it’s doable. Cold immune mobs require meteor to hit and that usually a merc that tanks for a couple of seconds. And for some faster mobs aiming Blizzard is akward.
I prefer Orb and Fireball or Firewall, damage of Orb is a bit less but needs no synergies to work and you have more control with slowing the mobs running at you.
Yeah this is my first time progressing through well with a sorceress as my first toon. Back in the day by the time I made one I had tons of gear for her. The gear on my merc isn’t great. Weapon is Insight, dusk shroud and some crappy mask helm.
I’m level 71 so definitely fine on level to enter hell.
I think I’m going to have to keep farming NM Mephisto for more gear?
Once I get some more gear I have one respec left from the Hell quest so I’m going to do a final respec to get through hell. Then after that I can farm the stuff I need to do a final MF respec with her.
Also have a friend that’s going to start playing and I’m having him do a Hammerdin as his first toon. I figure that combo should be good to get through hell once I rush him.
Meph NM or Andariel Hell is ok for your level. Your mercenary needs life leech of some sort. Tals mask is a pretty common drop and very good as starter. Undead crown also does the trick if you have that lying around. And meph or Andy will drop a Duriells shell or Shaftstop probably.
Alternatively if you have a Lum rune craft him a Smoke.
Seconding the Smoke armor. Lum is so easy to find some folks may just be nice enough to give you one. Nef Lum in a 2os armor gives enough resists that the only thing you’re worried about after that is physical damage income, which can be mitigated by life leech.
As a sorceress, your mercenary is very easy to keep alive as long as you can switch to teleport and move him out of danger, so he shouldn’t die THAT often. (He WILL die, there’s no question about that, but it shouldn’t be too often.)
If you manage to scrounge up a Lem rune somewhere along the line, Treachery is an INCREDIBLE armor for a Mercenary and will massively boost his survival.
All this is to say that a merc with any decent dual spec (I don’t like Blizzard as a dual spec since it has so many synergies) and you’ll be good to go.
Beyond this, my biggest suggestion is to ditch Blizzard for now. Frozen Orb has but one synergy and it’s not even super necessary to max. Orb + some Cold Mastery with Fire Wall and about 50/50 Warmth / Fire Mastery and you’ll plow through things all the way up to the ancients.
Admittedly, I had to group for the ancients…but such is the life of a sorceress.
You only need to have a set of ancients without double immunities fire and cold. If you get these double immunes open a tp and reset. Eventually you get a set where all only have one immunity (fire cold lightning i.e.). Takes some time, just drop some additional potions on the ground before to be safe with mana when your insight Merc dies. After that it’s just kiting with teleport and never getting hit.

Yes, but when I did the ancients, nobody was geared. I had maybe +1-2 skills and my HP pool was…::shudder:: abysmal. Wound up taking about 4 sorceresses of different specs and a druid with a bear to take em out! hahaha
Have not gone Hell difficulty fully yet since I want some more items for my sorc but can deal with NM nicely with fire/frost build. Meteor and Blizzard both need synergies to work so I would find those skills hard to balance because of that reason. That meteor damage is no go imo, way too low for hell, even my fireball beats that easily.
Personally if I went for Blizzard, with how things are currently in D2R I would go all out for it like you said but I wonder if you had cold mastery with it as now I assume you only have 1 point in it?
