Blizzard said no pay2win d4, but early access to lillith race $20

Can you please clarify what you are talking about?
What is the race and what is the head start?
Sorry, I’m not up to date on Diablo IV announcements.

Just like the threath was about them lying about what they offered and not marketing, but you seemingly need to do everything you can to defend Blizzard.
I don’t think the thread was meant as a, do you think this is the most effective way to earn quick cash for Blizzard.
But fine, have fun and help them drop the soap again.
Profit and without predatory tactics is definitely possible and while not as effective in the short term it can get you a loyal fanbase so it isn’t a bad thing to do.

Yeah, but that’s not why I said that, I said it because I don’t understand what his marketing concepts have to do with whether Blizzard is lying or not.
I know it’s an effective marketing strategy, that’s why most companies are doing it, targetting whales and using FOMO is effective for money, doesn’t mean you have to accept the behavior.

Alone not much, I have stopped paying Blizzard, but my money alone won’t change anything.
However the more people simply say enough’s enough, the more effect it would have.
Eventhough most of the money comes from whales, even whales stop spending if there’s no one left but other whales.
And I know simply stating this on a forum won’t change things, doesn’t have to stop me from doing it.
I also realize most companies use ethically unsound tactics and almost none a spotless, you can still draw a line for yourself, that side has gone to far and that side has the acceptable to good ones.
People can vote with their wallet and just like elections 1 vote won’t change anything, but does that mean everyone should stop voting?

But yeah, go defend predatory cash grabbing, that train of thought is what is keeping the industry produce bad games while still making more money than before.

Believe what u want to believe. They making money, and u get hurt, we get it. However none cares every company wants to make money. So u stuck with companies trying to make money.

The thing with kotler is that he collected data. And the data shows that his idea is how u make as much money as possible. Companies follow this because it works. If u can earn more by targeting early adopters then thats companies will do. Again its standard.

Feel free to start your own business. Or better start a charity and give away your money.

D4 is huge. Alot of ppl preorder. Even DI earn them alot. Not everyone is sensitive. They build a fanbase by releasing a product that ppl want.

Rofl. They not selling power which they stated that they wont. Kotler explain why they doing it and why every other company does the same.
If u want good products the company must earn money so they can survive. If u not gonna accept that companies use marketing tricks to earn money then u left with no products to choose from.

So leave. Why u still here? U showing blizzard that u are a crybaby? How bad will it look when u buy the game later?

Social justice warrior xD welcome to the real world. Money > crybabies

Typical socialist trying to win a argument by guilt tripping ppl. Clown
Predatory here and predatory there. Why u even care so much about a game?

Other companies do the same thing. Why shouldnt blizzard? They competing with companies which does.

And everything in the world should be free. And no ppl should starve. Whats your plan?

How u going to solve this? U want their product. U have to pay for it. Why should they give it away for free? Still shame on them for trying to make money to survive.

They’re making us pay 100 buck for a standard game and make the game pay2win. Let’s see what issues will run into when the release date I’m sure players will hit a hide wall

Only the internet will call playing a gazillion hours for a pretty meh reward that .0005,% of people will get and care enough to get. There is no Season or Leaderboards… There is 0 to win. If you win this grats you’re actually a loser. Go touch grass early start means nothing nor does pre season. Now if they do something like this for first season then I would agree

some of the takes here are just pure cope and defeatism

“they make extra money doing it, so of course they will do it”
“we’re stuck with it, so get used to it”
“there’s no race to pay extra for”
“how does paying 20 bucks extra for a headstart give you a headstart?” (this one is particularly atrociously hilarious)

imagine arguing with a person who does not understand that paying to start the 100 yard dash 50 yards in compared to everyone else is paying for an advantage.
square peg in round hole smooth brain power right there.

My question is simply going to be : is a society where companies get to do whatever they want to make money desirable? If not, what should be done to avoid them doing just whatever they want no matter how harmful it is?

Do the companies do whatever they want?
No they dont. They dont put a gun to your head and force u to buy their product.

They selling luxury product. Ppl can choose if they want to pay the price or not. Its fully optional to buy their product.

I expect ppl to be able to choose where they want to spend money. Ppl spending money on wrong things and blaming it on “predatory practice” or “evil companies” while the companies do what they need to keep selling their products. U know the companies have to pay salary to their employees and invest into the future to keep existing? If u was running a business u would do the same. Blame it on greed, predatory tactics or whatever but games is a cheap entertainment and ppl like u still believe its too expensive. So in other words u just greedy wanting it to be cheaper and goes on shouting into the void. If u think the game cost too much then dont buy it. If u have trouble to resist then seek help.

If u worried about companies taking advantage of ppl then move to a communist country. U know there are countries where online gaming is restricted. Maybe thats something for u?

U want games to be cheaper while everything in the world gets more expensive. U want companies to produce quality games but u not willing to pay the price for it. U want the game to keep running for many years to come but not willing to pay for it. So they should hire the best developers for minimum wage or better just work for free?

Talking about a greedy costumer.

Ok, so you simply have no clue on how the human psyche works. Humans aren’t as free-willed as you think, and the complaint is specifically that companies are intentionally preying on the weaknesses of the human psyche to try to go around the defenses people have and push them to spend more than they would normally.

It’s like with drugs. It works specifically because the mind isn’t perfect and can’t simply get rid of an addiction through sheer willpower.

Im a psychologist infact a therapist. Cut the crap. Stop acting like ppl cant resist buying d4. U such a clown rly. I alrdy explained why they using the business tactic.

I have no issues buying something i dont want. Children which are used to get whatever they pointing at usually have that issue later on in their adult life. Thats not the companies fault.

Ppl with weak minds tend to get stuck with drugs after they tried it. The majority of ppl dont get addicted though and alot of ppl doesnt even try drugs. There are obv many reasons to why ppl start with drugs which u cant compare to what blizzard are doing. If u cant resist drugs or buying anything which someone sells then seek help. Thats not the companies issue but a personal issue. Companies gonna market their products. They have to or alot of them wouldnt exist today.

So make games illegal. Infact make all products which isnt necessary illegal to sell simply because u believe adult ppl lack the ability to spend their money wisely. U know there are grown ups in the world to? Maybe not where u come from but i can tell u there are plenty of individuals with self-determination. If u believe that u not one of those why dont u move to a communist country?

If u dont want to buy d4 then dont. There are plenty of other games around.

It isnt even Season 1 Yet… Chill.

Ide rather enjoy myself and take my time going through the story than rushing to get one of the only 1k slots.

Whoever is even attempting any of the races and wanting to be world first or first 1k in this case more than likely already purchased the ultimate edition for the early access and all other digital cosmetics anyways.

I’m not gonna go all moral high ground here against corporations, but I will say that they are a very bad fit for certain things. For any kind of artistic or entertainment centered business, the corporate model inevitably chokes it to death by whittling it down to the least common denominator for the largest potential audience and then exploiting it to death. It creates a downward spiral of not just trying to appeal to the largest possible customer base by turning it into lukewarm porridge, but it also forces companies to try and squeeze more and more profits from said customer base, no matter the long-term cost. Near-term profits are all that are allowed to be considered, not long-term sustainability.

I’ve seen this over and over again with the music industry, the television industry, the gaming industry, internet companies, etc. After they go public, quality steadily becomes worse and gets dumbed down, changes are made to appeal more to mass consumers regardless of original style or audience, ads, mtx, and/or predatory marketing/products become more and more (and more) prevalent and eventually overwhelming.

The problem isn’t that they are trying to make more money, the problem is that it becomes the ONLY priority in businesses that are fundamentally about creativity and human expression. Prioritizing profits exclusively can work fine for many types of businesses, but is a toxic combination in creativity-driven businesses. Imagine if Edgar Allen Poe or Vincent Van Gogh had to work through committees and focus-groups, and had to justify each piece of work to managers that had to sell it to The Board who then had to justify its viability to shareholders. Sure, they may have made more money in their day, but no one today would remember their names or any of their works because they would have been turned into lukewarm porridge for mass consumption.

I have the feeling that Diablo is taking the same path as the Terminator franchise…

First one was pretty good.
Second one was over the top awesomeness. (Rare for a sequel)
Third one was OK.
Fourth one… They made a fourth one?
And a fifth? AND A SIXTH??

Anyone who is even remotely serious about diablo has the early access edition anyway

Does it matter if it’s pay to win I mean look at d2jsp it’s going to be pay to win even if they (the devs) don’t support the pay to win, you all are just jaded

I kinda draw the line at Diablo 4 being, i dunno, 20-50 dollars more expensive than even the most expensive AAA title…. AND having micro transactions. Pick one.
If we’re paying 100-130 dollars for a game, maybe it’s just me, but I don’t even want to see a cash shop. Everything should be accessible in the game.

^ that, and Diablo 4 just really isn’t that good. So I’m out. They lost me. Better luck with D5, or maybe when it goes on sale for 75% off, if I even care at that point.

Literally anyone that has a chance to complete this (no lifers) is going to buy early access anyway.

There is nothing wrong with this at all, but every one if your takes is just bait or idiocy anyway.

Because it actually has a real world reward, the first 1000 people to reach lvl 100 on hardcore get their names forever engraved on a statue of Lilith.

Still tho after all the backlash im still excited about the realese!
Hope its going to be a great diablo similar fun experience like d2r where you learn about the game 20 years later still!

But the time will show im also very pessimistic didnt saw anything yet what catched me!
The ultimates looks lame the characters are unbalanced as hell! The graphic looks quiet outdated the camera aspect is to close on the character no runes no cow level! And so on… lets see what the future and realese will show!

Im curious if they just took the same engine from diablo imortal cus it doesent looks so much better than that! Looks actually quiet similar from the videos i saw! Also what a fat minus point is you dont have anymore the level zones! The monster getting stronger if you getting stronger as well! So lets see where this goes!
