I’m already at my character count limit for on-line play and can’t make a ladder character
I thought there would be a different allocation for ladder. PLEASE UP THE MAX. I’ll need at least 10 more for ladder with mules and all. And no, I can’t delete any of my current characters or mules. Would you kill a horse in your stables to make room for another? No way! You’re good people. You have a heart. You want to make your players happy. More characters Pleeeeeeaaaasssse!
Stop hoarding junk you don’t need and characters that you haven’t invested much time in.
For me, the funnest part of the game is playing through with different characters. I think Bliz has done an amazing job of creating different types of characters with different types of play stiles–there’s a reason to play several builds of every character. I have about 20 characters that I’ve taken from level 1 to level ~84 (end of Hell). I’ve played them all solo (no getting someone else to level me up). When you have that wide a range of characters, and you play that wide a range of levels, you require a broad range of equipment. I have a carefully curated collection of items organized by type and distributed to mules that cover the span of characters and levels that I play (including all four mercenaries). I only have one character that I have yet to invest time in, but I’m planning to bring him up after the one that I am currently working on. And there are still several variants that I haven’t played that I want to play (Smiter, Kicksin, and since the 2.4 drop, FOHdin, to name a few) but don’t have room for. It is a little ironic to me that Blizz created this problem by being so good at what they do–by making an awesome game that has deep strategy and an extraordinary number of viable builds. And with the release of 2.4, which I love so far, I want to go back and play some of my variants again to see how they’ve changed, like my Fire Druid and Flaming Bowzon. Eventually, I will have high lvl runes which will open up high end items which will enable me to make even more character variants. I can easily see needing 2x the current character count or more. I think low character count caps are a legitimate problem given how many variants there are to play in D2R. To keep people interested in D2R and playing it long term Blizz needs to increase the cap. Maybe to prevent people having a lot of low level characters with minimal investments and hoarding junk, they could increase the character count by one each time you have a character that finishes Hell difficulty. That way Blizz would know, “This guy isn’t just making a ton of mules to store junk, he’s really invested a lot in this game and wants to take advantage of all the content we’ve created.”
Stop defending mediocrity.
I deleted a bunch of toons and I’m feeling pretty good about itZ
Why cannot any character also join ladder?
Is ladder loot high-yield compared to nonladder?
Maybe I don’t understand the difference between ladder and nonladder. I just solo Acts, complete Acts, and level up my necro as I go. I think I’m level 36 currently.
Stop defending hoarding.
You don’t get to play everything, you don’t get to keep everything. You don’t have the room to do so… this was intentional. The fact that we have more in game storage is a bone they have given us. The fact that you can’t make infinite mule accounts is a positive… it forces people to make those choices.
The biggest choice of all is… “Don’t like it? Don’t play it.”
It’s not just about muling. There are many players who have full accounts of characters they play, and can make no more without deleting characters that they would otherwise still be playing.
We don’t get to play everything? Why not? It costs pennies worth of storage and is really just cheap and short sighted on Blizzard’s part.
And if people want to digitally hoard, why not? Why do other people’s pixels bother you?
If people want to play everything under the sun, then can… but they still have to make those choices.
As for other people’s pixels… I don’t care what they do… but I’m not the one on here complaining about not having enough space. I have 8 characters and can’t see needing many more. It’s easy enough to move gear around, and get rid of junk I’m never going to use… but I’m not a hoarder.
Again… play or don’t… the choice is up to the individual. If you can’t make room, you don’t get to play. And I’m fine with it.
AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH…
sry…
i have deleted all my chars. new start from scratch^^
I hope they do give more slots for these players, even while I don’t see the need. I manage to get about 1 sorc fully geared and maybe one more decently-geared character in a ladder season.
Also, we have infinite respecs? It used to be zero respecs… sometimes it’s important to remember “today is better than yesterday” instead of choosing to be perpetually unhappy about something until it’s “perfect”.
Now, the lobby and game list however, which have only been made worse over time… don’t get me started.
Why do you feel having to make such choices is necessary?
Because that’s how the game was designed. They originally didn’t let you respec. They added the 3 we have to make the game a bit more forgiving, but you still have to make meaningful choices… you don’t get to be everything and do everything…
If there were not meaningful choices to be made, you’d end up with Diablo 3.
If you want to talk about “originally”, we originally had infinite accounts for the price of a single cd key and thus, both infinite characters and storage.
then puchase another account
i don’t think we need to gatekeep character slots. it is a fact that in old bnet you could have “infinite” characters.
did blizzard intend for it to be that way? no, they made 6 possible per account (8? i think 6) and as a byproduct of the account system you could make more.
they probably couldn’t have predicted people would think 20 is not enough. i’m BEYOND shocked that anyone needs more than 4 or 5, i have usually 2 i play and 2 or 3 mules depending on whether i find anything good that season.
for the ones who play NL i can see 20 being an issue. i just delete those ones when new ladder begins, NL is a strange and boring place to me. like single player but with people to trade with i guess.
Omg. i can’t read this wall of text. Im blind,
There is no downside for the players to implement this. And almost zero downside for blizzard (de minimis expense).
You don’t have 1 of every character at level 80 non ladder after 6 months? I’m surprised more people aren’t getting closer to cap. I have several of each class in non ladder.
I’m making my 3rd sorc (hydra orb!) for ladder and will make a fohadin as well. I’m very hesitant in exploring HC or Classic due to this character limit.
And I might not play all equally but I’ve built them to play when I feel inclined. I might not touch my poison necro for weeks, but he’s ready when I am. And I shouldn’t feel like I have to delete him or my charm mule to play ladder.
I think the ideal cap is 60, but I’d take any increase at this point.
Someone mentioned cost–if it really is an issue of cost for storage space, I’d be happy to pay $19.99 a year (God knows how much money I wasted on Raid SL) for a much larger stash (I’m thinking 100x the current space, not infinite). They just need to include good filters. I know it sounds odd to say “happy to pay” but I’ve enjoyed DiabloII for 20 years and want to see it supported for another 20 years. If having a revenue stream keeps Blizz happy and provides needed QOL upgrades for players, sounds like a win-win. With a big stash I could unload my mules and would have lots of slots for playable characters.
