Blizzard sorc is overrated and often suggested because you dont need any skill or game knowledge to play her but blizzard honestly suck for various reasons, definitely early on without elite items. I think frozen orb builds in general are better in almost every way and i always cringe when i see players suggestig blizzard build to new players.

She is so overrated that she can host baalruns in hc ladder p8 by herself. I run around with oculus btw.
Orb sorc can do baalruns very well too. If we talk p8 on hell, you need very good items for that with blizz.

I have lvl 81 blizz sorc now and in comparison is frozen orb build just better from various reasons.
Blizz sorc with end game gear and very high level is surely great, but early level without equip, i cant say its that good build.
i can only see one, more points for dual spec
what makes it good early on is the ability to cast>kite>cast>kite and the no aiming necessity orb has bc if one dont aim well his orbs, well…better not even play it
You should share those “various reasons.” Even with weak beginner gear (spirit, etc.) Blizzard scales damage much nicer. After act 2 in Hell difficulty frozen orb’s damage is so low that playing through becomes painfully slow (only compared to Blizzard’s killing speed, that is. It actually is rather average when compared to, say, a barbarian using whirlwind).
Ok reasons,area of dmg is too small and monsters can often leave it easy without taking much dmg, especially elite monsters, you need to use 3 skills as blizzard as it cant be comfortably on the left side as frozen orb with right side teleport. Hit mechanic of blizzard is quite weird and sometimes it doesnt hit monsters fast enough
Yes, orb need more skill, but if you master the movement its very strong and it definitely kills andariel faster than blizzard with same very low budget gear. You have to also invest a lot of skill points so your blizz build will be a lot more fragile , mana consumption is often very demanding compared to orb build with ES as you also focus energy.
Because you can invest more skills elsewhere, you can make your build a lot more durable or support it with other skills like enchant, warmth, frozen armor, ES, TK…
As i have blizz sorc now i see how is she so much more fragile and can die very easily with small mistake.
Where is blizzard better ? When you face high hp big group of monsters and thats prety much it. I dont see any other thing where blizz excell over orb. So yeah blizz is great against cows, there is blizz a lot better than orb, but only on hell. Orb deal with normal and nm cows a lot better and faster.
You can argue that blizz is better st high player setting. Sure but benefits of that are not great as people think for clearing 85 zones. Hitting just elites is more effective for uniques and sets so you dont need to run it at all at higher player setting and rue wise is travi x time better for runes. But orb with goodgear is fullycapable of clearing at p3 anyway if you really want to.more is not needed.
Most of my arguments are for finding items. I admit that for leveling is better blizzard with good equip as higher max dmg allows you to kill stuf on high player setting better.
Pure Blizz is mainly recommended for areas with no cold immunes. For lvling and beating Hell the first time it is not that good.
For dual element builds I have already expressed my thoughts here:
Overrated maybe, but still powerful and efficient for farming, pending the player knows how to use Blizzard properly.
Blizzard is great for corralling enemies into a large tight groups and destroying them. (cows) Most monsters are dumdums and walk straight toward you like zombies, allowing the usage of teleport to keep them in the Blizzard damage field for longer. You can be destroying one group of enemies while corralling the next group for destruction.
It’s great for quickly dispatching unique/champion packs while you’re on your way to kill a boss… It’s great for hitting single hard targets (bosses) as long as you cast it to the immediate left of them. Then you have Glacial Spike for crowd control and Ice Blast for freeze+additional damage to single targets.
As far as cold immune uniques, you can either skip or static and telekinesis against a wall, and let SirPokesAlot (or whatever merc you have) destroy them.
Its the lazy build, but ultra powerful. You can beat hell with it fast and then clear some top 85 areas to farm for runes and gear.
I prefer orb myself, hydra getting its buff has really sold me on that combo and once you get strong enough, you can desimate every area of the game worth farming.
LMAO that’s cute you think any of the D2 builds take skill. All builds of all classes are mindless spamming. How is Blizzard different than Frozen Orb? You just spam orbs everywhere in every direction. Same with a hammerdin. Spam hammers. Javazon spam lightning.
Yeah you can just spam orbs, sure, but to maximize their damage on a single target, you must make it explode on their face. 16 shards from the explosion, 30 shards while it’s moving, so you’ll get roughly ~20 shards to hit a single target if you can get it to explode on their face. Sheet damage for orb is per ice shard.
Yeah you can spam Blizzard, but if you want to hit a single target, you must cast it to the immediate left of the target.
Hammers, you have to cast while you’re right below your target to guarantee hit them. But mostly spam for anywhere else.
Javazon, yeah it’s just spam… 
Simply does more dps and paired with ice blast kills a lot quicker without gear than orb when farming mephisto. Hopefully they will nerf dumb moat trick at some point I get tired of exploiting that every season.
D2 takes quite a bit of skill idk what you are talking about you must never play single player
Ah. I am used to mostly playing in crowded online games, so that might be why frozen orb always seemed so weak to me.
I do like that the frozen orb has fewer synergies and is still solid 
(I like options, defense skills, and hybrids). It is also much easier to aim than Blizzard, but Blizz can feel more rewarding when cast in front of fast moving monsters and timed correctly to hit them.
It doesn’t really matter for many situations but the damage drops off for /players 8. Blizzard is much better for an 8 player mf game where everyone does a different area. Or just simply /players 8 offline.
But that’s enough reason to go blizzard. Why gimp yourself if you end up playing 8 man MF games.

i always like to go Orb despite the damage difference, but Frozorb is higher maintenance. Blizzard is simple and easy to gear.
Blizzard is easily the cheapest build to farm cows in hell.
