Blizz under DDoS attack

From the launcher:

We are currently experiencing a DDoS attack, which may result in high latency and disconnections for some players. We are actively working to mitigate this issue.

Years ago I would have reacted wondering who would do that, and that’s awful. But now I just assume they’re doing something with the servers on a prime time day and don’t want to have to bother explaining that.

No, they would not be touching the servers today unless it was an emergency. Most of Blizzard/ATVI is off this week for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The main day is tomorrow and most people are not at work and don’t schedule anything important.

Bad folks are happy to take advantage of that though to hit various businesses. Wonder about the Black Friday sales shops :frowning: My web has been glitchy all day with odd drops.

Well here comes a flood of fresh anni’s by the hundreds, Ber and Jah runes, Sojs…

Get your damn act together Blizzard

this reminds me of when psn got a DDoS attack on chrismas a few years ago

Not seeing anything here logging in from Europe.

Willing to bet bots will be deployed to buy up certain items and jack the prices up.

What ‘act’ is there to get together, pray tell?
Anyone and everyone is vulnerable to DDoS. It is literally not possible to avoid it entirely.

Blizz should seriously consider moving their app services to Amazon Web Services to put an end to DDOS shenanigans. Anonymous learned that the hard way when they tried to DDOS AWS and only ended up embarrassing themselves. AWS connection resources exceed many countries around the world lol.

True enough, but as MissCheetah points out above, given the (USA) holiday tomorrow, it can sometimes be predictable.

Not if you have more connections than the DDOS’ers have zombie PC’s. AWS is such an example. They were previously targeted by Anonymous, and only 1 hosted web page even saw a blip.

This is very true - sadly though there’s no real countermeasures in place to combat it other than to just be ready to fight the stream of pain and hardship that come as a product of DDoSing.

DDoS or just an overwhelming influx of players due to the holiday? I think it’s just another example of how crappy bnet servers are. They can’t handle peak volume and they use DDoS as a lame excuse.

Get your sh!t together already…

I feel like that to have been less that Google successfully fought off a DDoS and more that they had more server capacity than Anonymous was ready to contend with.

I was just disconnected while doing a solo Uber run…nothing like opening 3 portals and then having the servers disconnect…Please help me resolve this issue and waste of resources/time blizzard :frowning:

Somehow I suspect they have other priorities at the moment.

On the contrary - less people play during Holidays in the United States - there would have been less people today and tomorrow - but this is all nonsensical to discuss as this isn’t the case here - in being that you think it is possibly a large influx of players when it is in fact DDoS.

This happens every year during Holiday season for a multitude of different mega corporations.

Ive never played a game where it was affected by DDos, except blizz games EVER

only took 10 minutes to log in despite the DDOS, not a huge deal?
