I created threads about this in the EU General Discussion forums but i have been advised to post them here, since they could be considered localisation bugs.
I’ll be direct: ES_ES Localisation is a mess. I mean Castillian Spanish, I don’t know if there is also a LATAM Spanish version.
If needed I could provide many screenshots with the issues I’ll mention. Here is a brief list. Please note this is not about style changes from the original D2 localisation. It’s a list of errors that affect the player’s experience. I’ve translated it into English to make note of the issues.
- in chat, there is no space between the playername placeholder and the message. It reads as “Johnhas joined the game”.
- Gear that provides +class skills shows repeated parentheses: +1 to Blizzard ((Sorceress only)).
- Some items have their affixes shown in an incorrect way. Suffixes appear before the name and a tag is shown. Example: of excellence [fs]Broad sword
- There is no way to know a party member’s level in the party menu. Longer classes get cut off and it reads the following (I’ve left this one in Spanish because this is because of the grammar change: Hechicera de nivel…. It does not happen with barbs or druids because their class names are shorter. A quick fix to this could be to enable a mouseover text showing the full string.
- Even in the newest Terror Zones localisation errors can be found. The TZ just swapped to Pits, which is known as “El Foso” in Spanish. However, in the upper right text in the map, it says “Del Foso”, which is incorrect as a standalone word.
I am sure I am forgetting more of them, but these issues have been present since launch. I am a videogame localisator myself and it’s sad to see one of my favorite games in this state. I’m hopeful you will do as much as possible to fix them.
It’s been almost two years since the original post by Orphen, but this is still happening with some items. I just bought the game during the sale and I’m playing the campaign for the first time, so I’m noticing these issues a lot.
This doesn’t just happen with weapons, it also happens with armor and rings, and it generally affects blue or better quality items, the grey quality ones seem to be fine.
I will post a few screenshots in Spanish and the correct order translation.
*It doesn’t let me post links or embed media, so I will post them as preformatted text.
Happens with shields. This should be “Escudo pequeño de espinas”.

Happens with maces. This should be “Porra con pinchos de escarcha [fs]”.

Happens with head armor. This should be “Gorro de energía”.

Happens with chest armor. This should be “Armadura de cuero del chacal [fs]”.

Happens with rings. This should be “Anillo de codicia”.

There must be a ton more, so don’t just fix each of these individually, apply a general fix to correct the suffix/affix order.
It’s a Prefix issue, we don’t use it in spainish we only use Suffixes and they doesn’t intend to redo or fix this game for spanish users.
4 years later and we’re still the same. I understand there could be localisation issues at launch, but this just shows you guys don’t care about having decent localisation for this game. Maybe you just outsourced all translations and forgot about this. But as a professional localiser myself I can tell you the result is terrible.
I am playing Reign of the Warlock now and the same issues still happen. You have proof in the screenshots provided by Danteska 2 years ago.
Some newer problems: the Warlock class in it’s dubbing mentions “campamento pícaro” refering to the Rogue Encampment, translated in all D2 Spanish versions as “Campamento de las arpías”. It was as easy as checking a translation memory or a glossary. If I did such a mistake in my projects I would probably get fired or at least be asked to fix it asap, as not respecting a glossary is a critical error for a translator.
I please ask you to fix these mistakes. It should not be that hard to polish this localisation to have a decent final product. I am not aware if these issues also happen in other languages, but it might be a good idea to do a quick check as well. Non-English speaking players deserve a flawless gaming experience as well.
