Beta Testing was too short

Only giving us acts 1&2 to test is pointless. There are 3 more acts that need to be tested. I don’t know what you’re doing Blizzard but you really need to get your act together. Reopen the beta and let us test it for you there is no way the you guys will find all the bugs and exploits. You never do and you always release games half finished and try and fix after the game is out. We’re tired of playing a games that are buggy messes and hopping you listen to our feed back. Just because you don’t let us the players who know the game 1000x more then you guys do. Actually test the game long enough before launch. Reopen the testing and lets us help you make the game great before launch.

Act 1 and 2 were enough to test the fundamentals of the game. Anything more would spoil the game for those that have not yet played it. The inclusion of only acts 1 and 2 gives us a ‘mini grind’ to experience to unlock level 30 skills. Call it a ‘demo’.

The alpha and beta tests were mainly to collect feedback/statistics of the game on a wide range of computer system configurations as well as testing Battle.net platform stability.

Correct! At least open the game up for testing to all who have pre-purchased!

It said beta test, but in actuality, it was a server stress test. Nothing more.

i mean… yes… but in reality very few issues were graphics related, i would be much more concerned about not giving us assasin and necro to test as well as not really being able to effectively test lvl 30 skills becuase its very time consuming to reach lvl 30 on multiple characters when u only have access to lvl 21 monsters in tombs.

yes i expect the game to be a mess at launch, but so does VV thats why they delayed ladder.

i consider launch the “real” beta test.

you feel entitled or something? i dont think you understand this Beta… why should we even test Act3-4-5? why would they let us play there if they dont need us there?

I consider launch the “real” beta test. Well apparently Blizzard agrees with you. Which is why they’ve become so damn lazy and keep launching games half finished and buggy as hell. I don’t know about you but I’m sick and tired of “beta test” a game that is supposed to be finished. And hoping they fix the problems with a game that in their eyes is ready.

They are saving something for launch. DarkJedi has good points in his post.

No, they won’t get everything and they never do. I consider it impossible really.

I mean, I HOPE not, but you are right. That is why ladder is delayed until they make sure the game is stable enough. Hopefully only a week or so. Open Beta was WAY more stable than Early Access Beta so I have hopes.

You do realize that IF Blizzard were to wait and release the game in what everyone considers a “completely bug-free finished state” relying on internal testing alone, the game would never be released…

i mean i understand your point… but that is how they did it 20 years ago…

its just back then games were much simpler.

being able to patch bugs is cool,

but yeah “going gold” really doesn’t mean u near stop production on a game anything like it used to

the entire point of the Beta is server stability. And its a remaster, not a completely new game. They said that the entire game is still under the new graphics engine. So why exactly would they need to test a game that has been tested for 20 years? There will be a couple new glitches, sure, but there won’t be a ton considering they aren’t changing the games code.

shouldve gave us all of normal or at least up to normal act 4

…Which would have spoiled the game for those who never played it. Some would say “OK, I played and completed the game, no point in buying it now!” Not a very smart sales tactic.

Agreed. It makes sense to hold back the rest of acts for the final release. There are plenty of people who would complete the entire game in the weekend and feel they have no need to play the shipping build.

Back many years ago before the “World Wide Web” was still in its infancy, game ‘demonstrations’ or demos were freely distributed on bulletin board systems, with demo CDs included with game magazines and for a small purchase ($5) from retail stores. The purpose of the demos was to sell the game. The demos were often widespread many months or even a year after the release of the full game, BUT the demos themselves were usually made available pre-release for testing purposes to help polish the release of the game. That is why the version number of demos are often very low compared to the many years later final fully patched versions of the full game.

I still have my original Quake shareware CD.

kinda funny i didn’t even consider this. As a D2 veteran I consider going to nightmare and hell completely different parts of the game. But to a brand new player, they’d be like “oh ok, im done? short game”. So im betting THIS is the real reason for limiting us to Act 2 as well as not letting us test out all the classes.

i am new and the game isnt completed unless hell is finished (solo) even though i only played old d2 for like 6 months

While I do agree that the game is more enjoyable in Hell difficulty, not everyone who has played or will play the game for their first time will share that viewpoint.

well i suck too much at immunes to play hell but i have to complete it or that character cant be qualified as completed they shud give us normal up to act 4 and we can farm chaos till lvl 30-40 ish and unlock all skills and test it out in normal how is it diablo beta if we dont get to fight diablo

I’m not going to keep repeating myself as far as why it would have been a bad idea for marketing reasons.

The original game is the beating heart of D2:R, which means acts 1-5 have technically been ‘done’ for two decades. That’s all I’ll say.
