Basic question about Hammerdin Build

First time I play this build. I understand that beside the main skill (Blessed Hammer) I need to put points in different skills as well for “synergies” (e.g. concentration, vigor). I understand they increase the Blessed Hammer damage - but I don’t understand how: if I can have only one skill active at the time (e.g. concentration) how does the fact that Vigor can theoraticaly increase my damage helps me if its not active?
What do I miss friends?

Vigor just increases it’s power passively so it doesn’t need to be equiped in order to power up blessed hammers.

But concentration only increases the power of blessed hammers while it’s active.

Holy shield is a must. What you want to do with holy shield is activate it than increase dex a few points at a time while checking your chance to block. Once you get your chance to block with holy shield active to 75 you have maxed out your block.

I would save this for a repsec when you get to hell though. That’s when your chance to block becomes really important.

Understood. But then if holy shield is active - concentration cannot be active. So how do I play it? According to the situation?

Holy shield and concentration can be used simultaneously, they have no conflict. You cannot use two paladin auras at one time, unless another aura is granted by an item or the act 2 mercenary.

I’ve been playing this game on and off so long I kind of just do this stuff naturally. Explaining the how and why is a lot more difficult that I thought it would be. lol

Blessed Aim only use in the Hammerdin build is for synergy bonuses to boost your blessed hammer damage. Do not use, just add points for boosted damage, same as Vigor. Concentration is what most people use bc of the large increase in hammer damage output. You can switch to Vigor when you aren’t in combat to run faster. Blessed Aim won’t affect the efficiency of your hammers as they are a magical source of damage, its only used in melee builds and sparingly at that.
