I’m learning this class blind overall, but don’t want to make the same mistakes with stats as i did with another class. So, for a pally, do I put more points into strength or dexterity? Or both? Thanks
str-only enough for gear. my build uses enigma and i put zero into str. paladins dont wear monarch spirit so don’t require 156 str. (some pvp builds use crown of ages that is 174 str but don’t worry about that for now)
-dex- you always go max block with your holy shield skill active. this is only class that always goes max block because its so easy to achieve(activate the skill before putting a lot of points into dex) your shield choice matters a lot here.
-vitality -everything else
-energy- zero always even if a hammerdin.
do not waste points on dex for more attack rating. your only goal is max block then rest into vitality.
This depends on what build you are making. A zealot will be drastically different than a Hammerdin.
A Hammerdin will start with just enough st to use your armor and everything else into vit. At some point you will decide if you go max block or not. As you are a caster you don’t need Dex unless you max block or pick a weapon with a dex req.
Zealot on the other hand needs to equip ‘heavier’ armor which means more ST for the armor and weapons that will have either a dex or st req, or both. In this case you start with what you need to use your weapons/armor. Being melee you will also want max block and more dex for attack rating is needed as you need to hit things. I’d start with raising them up equally, one level st, next level dex, next level vit. Once you get them both above 100 you will also be at a point where you can make some decisions on what gear you will be using.
Choice of weapon really effects your ‘required’ stats:
Heavens light has req’s of Dex 65 St 125
Lightsaber has req’s of Dex of 136 St 25
Demon Limb has req’s of St of 133
Berserker Axes have req’s of Dex of 38 St 101
Max block also depends on your shield
With Herald of Zak + Max HS you need only 105 (total so + from gear will get you there) into Dex to get max block
With Ancients Pledge + Max HS you need @130
Good thing we can re-spec…you can save up some tokens by the time you get that crazy gear.
so enough str for gear and enough dex for max block?
theres basically only two stat paths. max vita or max block unless you are an ES sorc.
most classes in softcore go max vita build. pally is only class that always goes max block path.
More importantly, those are the requirements for the Phase Blade base item, which is something to keep in mind if you’re planning on making the Grief runeword (for a Zealot for example).
