Barbarian Dual Wield Berserk Bug

Tried to make a berserk magic find barbarian. Want to dual wield greif phase blade and gull dagger. Whenever I equip the gull dagger, it uses that weapon to attack with berserk and not my greif, no matter which weapon slot I place it in. To my understanding berserk is supposed to use the main hand weapon which is the left side weapon slot. This may also be linked to why double swing is not working properly.

I have this exact issue!!!

Proof of weapon bug:

It’s driving me nuts. I tried everything. Making sure I wasn’t str bugged. Unequipped everything and re-equipped in various ways. Some weapons work, where you can freely put something into mainhand. But for some reason this simply won’t work.

Ok, to anyone who needs a quick fix until the Dev Team patches this. A solution I found is to simply hard-point all requirements for the item, then it will main-hand as intended.

I’m not talking about STR-Bugging or anything like that causing the issue. In my case I have a ring with +Dex that I was USING, not for bugging, and that in itself was enough for this weapon bug to appear.

2 respecs later, I wondered if a hardpointed statsheet would fix this, and funny enough it did. So D2R clearly has an issue with +stats not working as intended, which is probably a side effect from fixing the STR bug or other fixes.

TL:DR - D2R please fix the +Stat from items to allow you to main hand your weapon, instead of forcing it into the off-hand.

i think im having the same problem where i want to have a grief runeword in my mainhand and a gull dagger in my offhand, for some reason it switches the weapon visually to bring the gull dagger to my main attacking hand and then beserk will only use the gull dagger. i cant really replicate that situation in regular diablo 2 so i assume this is just a bug

Bumping this thread in the hopes of a fix. Please don’t force us into the Sorc meta, this is a significant bug for Barb players.

(175 hard-point STR for zerker lulz)

Same issue, no way to deal with it. Need to fix it.

Same issue. It doesn’t appear to be a stat issue either, as unequpping the Gull Dagger allows you to use the Grief without any issues. I’ve unequipped Gull for now.

It’s also seemingly also for Berzerk only - when I auto attack the Grief hits every second hit as per standard.

Tried unequpping/requipping/swapping slots/waiting 24 hours. Still no joy. Going to run an MF shield in the meantime

Same issue. I try to put a Doombringer in my mainhand but it switches to the offhand Gull. Interestingly enough this is not limited to the Gull. When I try to put in another weapon in the offhand it does the same thing. When I use any other combination it does the same thing. It’s tho it’s forcing me to use the lower dmg output weapon. Please fix this.

Same thing here. bump

Bump, clearly an issue that needs fixing for mf barbs.

Did you try the solution I found above?

My setup is:
Oath Mainhand, Gull Off-hand

I got Berserk to work by hard pointing all stats for Oath (That means 185 str and 87 dex when naked).

With my gear on I get 200+ Str and 100+dex, which is such a waste of stats, but at least I deal the correct amount of dmg with the right weapon.

(Please fix so I can get my HP back!!)

This might help or it might not:
Main hand weapon is the weapon you equip first. The weapon slot doesn’t matter. Might still be a bug here, but still good to know.

Yea this is not what’s causing this issue. No sequence of equipping will allow you to mainhand Oath/Grief if your stats are not hardpointed.

BUMP

Same issue . I even have hard points in Dexterity to use the Phase blade, so user above’s ‘solution’ is not working

Thanks for confirming this. I was looking to transition from Oath to Grief next, so I’m sad to hear it doesn’t work for the Phase Blade.

And you have Str+Dex to equip even when naked, removing all charms etc…?
(It’s the only fix I found with Eth Balrog Oath, so I’m surprised it didn’t work for you).

EDIT: I just did a test with a naked char and I seem to be able to equip Phase Blade Main + Gull Off-hand just like the above example, only when fully hard pointed. No torches, no charms, no gear.

Also posted an example of how there’s 2 different behaviors depending on the item/stat setup:

I’m having the same issue with Baranar’s Star and the Blade of Ali Baba. I’m too poor for grief.

I definitely have enough hard points to use the equipment naked.
I’m using Ali baba, not Gull. Wonder if the Ali Baba is the issue

Experiencing the same bug but I noticed something interesting. For reference, I’m using eth balrog with oath in it and alibaba with nothing in it.

I also need the stats from my alibaba to equip my oath. However, when I swap the positioning of the weapons in my inventory, my attack speed changes. Visually, I still see the alibaba in my right hand, but if my oath is on the left weapon slot, it is quite a bit slower.

I tested this with a 2nd person and a stopwatch, counting my attacks, and can confirm that my attack speed is faster with the oath on the right side of equipment screen (even if visually the alibaba is still in my right hand).

Based on this, is it possible the bug is just visual? Has anyone found a reliable way to test the damage and confirm if that’s also just visual?

Edit: Did a test with a much lower dmg weapon and it appears that the dmg is still based on which weapon is visually in your right hand. It’s odd that the attack speed changes depending on which slot it’s in, but the damage is definitely still based on the visual main hand.

This needs to be fixed ASAP. How can we submit this bug report directly to the developers? This is so dumb that we have to dump hundreds of stat points to equip gear properly when we should be able to get by with much less same as everyone else. I was going insane trying to figure this out, googling around to see if it’s some old D2 quirk where my phase blade main hand keeps getting put in the offhand, but nope that’s a D2R thing and I’m so glad to have found this thread. I’m not about to dump all my points into dexterity and essentially waste a respec, but freaking hell if this never gets fixed then D2R is just unplayable IMO and that’s a downright shame.
