I only tested leap attack for like 20 mins after the new patch but theres a thing i noticed about it and im not sure if this is how it supposed to work.
When you are just leaping without hitting any monster, there is zero delay between each leap and also no delay if only AoE part of the leap hits enemy. But when you hit targeted enemy with main leap attack weapon hit, then there is like 0.5 sec cooldown/delay before you can leap again.
idk if this is weapon attack speed thing or something isnt working as intended. What do you guys think?

As someone who has a dedicated Leap Attack barb, I was excited to see how it would function. And I’m pretty disappointed, for the reason you listed. It’s like I was able to perform far more Leap Attacks in 2.3, than I am able to in 2.4, as there’s some sort of weird delay. Idk if this is intended or not, but consider me disappointed.
I guess on the bright side I’ll be able to delete him and gain +1 character slot, lol…so sad all around.

Seems like they read some of our discussions here about that skill. I and a few others thought it was silly to have frog like barbs jumping back and forth to hit andy like anime characters. Leap attack was meant to be something like an opener attack with mobility capacity. but not a main attack. thats probably why they included that delay after hit. Like jump into a crowd and whirlwind from there.
That makes very little sense. Why would anyone ever invest anything into such a skill? For it to be used for one attack on opening? The skill points for such a minimal luxury simply aren’t there. Leap attack was actually fun to use in 2.3, and for most of d2s history. I was excited for the sensible buffs to it. Such a awesome skill deserved some love. I’ll still use it, it’s just sad they had to do two steps forward, one step back. Meanwhile they go 3+ steps forward with something like FoH and somehow that’s okay…just sad all around. Especially for those of us like myself who literally have always had and always make a dedicated leap attack Barb. If someone like me is disappointed with these changes, then who were the changes even for? What were they even meant to accomplish?

I guess I don’t play enough because I’ve never heard of or seen this in action but it sounds hilarious and something I would want to keep lol

Meanwhile 200% speed leap and leap animation changes are the absolute best change D2r has done to date. Beautiful. Feels good. Useful. Works. Boom. Why even get leap attack? Its leap warcry doublestrike, you dont get better than that. DS > frenzy dps.
If only my bear or wolf could leap… I would really just never play another class ever again?

let’s face it, Leap attack is a fail skill that no body uses no matter how good they buff it, just like grim ward…

I’m sure someone will figure out a pvp use. All those weirdos dont have anything else to do (literally, no pvp content)

Yea i know how you feel im like the biggest Might of the Earth leapquake fan in the world… its the only build i play in D3 and when i saw changes to leap attack in d2 i was like can life get any better???
Ill still use the skill and probably try to make a build around it but i am a bit disappointed how it works. I do not understand why there is no delay when leaping on an empty field but there is when you are actually hitting enemies with skill. Would really like to know if this is intended mechanic or bug.
I intended to make Death RW for leap attack build but ill have to consider that now. Anyone knows if crushing blow or deadly strike works on AoE part of leap attack?

Especially solo and/or hardcore. It helps crowd control a lot.
Throwbarb first on my mind:
20 throw mastery, 20 doublethrow, 20 find potion, 1-20 grimward, 20 doubleswing
so no BO ? no shout ? no Battle command?

After playing some more with leap attack it seems to me now that this delay between leaps is actually attack speed related. Looks like delay after each leap is longer if using slow 2h weapon vs fast 1h with ias on it. So it isnt cooldown but attack speed thing. Maybe leap attack cast rate always depended on attack speed of the weapon i have no idea honestly.
At least we can still use leap to move faster across the map even when using slow weapon since it doesnt have delay when not attacking anything.

I don’t see a point in having 20 BO for Throwbarb - ranged char. If its not Hardcore.
1 point BO and +skills is all I need. Pump everything into damage!
The best defense is a good offense.
