I am completely tech-illiterate…

How do we know if we have AVX? The “potentially affect all users” verbiage has me nervous.

I think it’s an i5, but beyond that I’m not sure and can’t check right now. I have an Acer Nitro laptop that I bought at the beginning of the pandemic so that I could work from home.

not sure where you got that info it supports avx2 in fact (the avx standard is backwards compatible so avx2 works with avx)

Yes sir, I can play and the game runs just fine. I just wasn’t sure if there’s a chance that whatever fix they have for the AVX would make my laptop not run it anymore.

google hwinfo and download that program. then see if avx is shaded in green under your processor tab

On the Intel side, anything from Haswell (4th gen Core CPUs) on up has AVX2. Second and third gen Core CPUs (2xxx/3xxx series) have AVX.

On the AMD side. CPUs from the Bulldozer line and later support AVX. You can find the AMD CPU listings here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Vector_Extensions

You can also use CPU-Z as well: https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html This will show you the technologies available to your CPU right in a nice neat window.

Well, I never claimed to be a “real gamer” and am 100% sure that I already said I was tech-illiterate, so…

But, it also boggles my mind how everyone who drives a car doesn’t know how to change their own oil, change their own tires or time their own belts. I wonder how many people that drive a car even knew that cars had belts… catch the anaolgy?
