AVX Issues / Game Launches, then Crashes on Older Processors (CPU)

you got those numbers backwards champ, you live in fantasyland with such nonsense, now if you want to say more people are watching twitch and youtube streamers you may have an argument but judging just from the numbers on these forums the avx issue is a massive massive problem, oh and blizzard knows that as well, in case you think they donā€™t.
and we can skip the fact that most people who are having these problems have lives and so donā€™t even bother saying anything as they probably wouldnā€™t even know how even if they wanted to complain.

making numbers out of ur a$$, lmao what a clown

those numbers are backwards, the vast majority of computer owners either donā€™t want or donā€™t need the latest technologies, where do you come up with these numbers that a forum where 80,000 people at least looked at far surpasses every single other post by hundreds or many thousands of views or whatever you call it.
but yeah, its only a couple people with this issue, man stop being a troll and go work for blizzard if you arenā€™t already.

I refunded when it was recommended.

The only way I see myself repurchasing is if it is explicitly stated that the fix is now equivalent to open beta system requirements.

Otherwise, d2r open beta to launch disaster is how blizzard will be remembered.

the problem is they live in some sort of alternate dimension where its always sunshine and rainbows, no one over at blizzard even knows thereā€™s an issue where the vast majority of paying customers canā€™t play this game because blizz did an accidental underspec.

Do any CPU experts knowā€¦ Is AVX 2 a superset of AVX? So if a CPU supports AVX2 it definitely supports AVX(1)?

hear hear hear hear hear hear hear hear hear hear.
this forum really sucks.

Iā€™d stop hoping if you want to keep some of your sanity, but by all means there is plenty of room to watch this sinking ship, well, sink.

Just wanted to add to the tally of players with AVX issue. I played the beta with no issues and havenā€™t been able to launch the game. I got a refund but that doesnā€™t change the fact that this completely destroyed the hype for me. Even if they fix this I will never preorder another game from blizzard. Adding AVX support as a requirement after beta without testing was such a terrible decision I donā€™t even know what to say. I donā€™t even know what AVX is but I think anyone with half a brain would have known this was a bad idea. I also doubt that they have a fix for this, if the issue was that simple they would have patched it already. Itā€™s a serious problem and the only solution might actually be buying new hardware to play a 20 year old game. Sad.

or you can see if you can run it I can, even though I canā€™t. I canā€™t post the link apparently.

I am with you, but they did say the Beta was on an ā€œold engineā€ before it started. I wish they had explained or even knew AVX was required on the new engine, so we could have plannedā€¦ that is the real kicker for me.

@Drakuloth: You may want to ask the devs if they might consider an approach Square Enix takes for its PC ports. That is, create a configurator that will launch prior to D2R launching (once deployed, and only that one time unless manually launched later). This could pop up with just two options in the form of a question:

Question in configurator window: Are you unable to launch the game at all?

Options in configurator:

  1. Yes: Selecting this option will disable AVX optimizations, and may result in slower performance overall, but should allow you to play the game.

  2. No: Selecting this option will leave your settings untouched and allow you to continue to play the game normally.

The configurator, as noted in the two ā€œanswersā€ to the question in its window, would either leave the game untouched or disable AVX optimizations, allowing as many to play while not affecting those that are currently able to play, and retain all current optimizations.

This may be the best route for the developers to take so as to affect as few players as possible with any issues and allow as many as possible to play.

Im in the same boat, sinking. Refund wonā€™t solve problem, they donā€™t care.
Irresponsible of them to change the game after Beta and not telling us, but letting us figure it outā€¦ If beta was avx processed, we would know that we couldnā€™t run it.
Last minute major changes should have been noted.
It is one week after launch, two patches (thanks, but no thx), and game does NOT PLAY. bottom line. Communication other than telling us that avx is the issue (means older machines cant play), would be nice. Basically a $40 game costs like $700( new mb processor, Ram) for machines that currently cant play it
Iā€™m not a coder, but if they can make ur shako blue or green, they can fix this.

Iā€™m not the most computer literate person out there and Iā€™m more than okay admitting that. When a game comes out and I look at the minimum requirements, I use what basic knowledge I have to figure out if I can run it or not. So when I saw that D2R needed an i3 processor and I have an (older) i7 I still thought ā€œOkay, so it should still run if I can run games x, y, & zā€

I had never heard of AVX before this launch. I had even asked my boyfriend who is MUCH more computer savvy than I am what it was and he wasnā€™t entirely sure. If I knew this had been a requirement to run the game, I would have looked into it to see if my computer supports it (it doesnā€™t) and would have either made the changes necessary so I could play the game or would have just never bothered to purchase it to begin with.

Iā€™m not upset about the need for AVX being added. If Iā€™m below minimum specs without it then thatā€™s fine. Iā€™m upset that it was not communicated to players in a way that gamers like me would understand. All it would take is to add in the game requirements to say something under processors like ā€œAVX Support neededā€ and I would have thought ā€œOh, okay, Iā€™m not sure what that is, but let me look into it and see if itā€™s something my processor hasā€.

I am not trying to blame Blizzard for my processor being older or for me being ā€œbelow minimum requirementsā€. What I am trying to say is that Blizzard should have made this specification more clear in their minimum requirements for D2R.

This may have become sort of ramble-y and I apologize. Just need to vent a little, you know? A lot of people I know are able to play the game and I feel like Iā€™m missing out. I donā€™t want to rant at them for having fun. Iā€™m just frustrated, like many other people here.

Donā€™t just lie to people.

They are working on a fix, we just donā€™t exactly know how much longer until it gets released.

Let him make his own decisions if he wants to wait or refund.

There IS a fix, they just wonā€™t give us it until they are sure it wonā€™t effect other people who can already play.
