At least it's not d4

I take solace in the fact this is not d4.

I remind myself every time I have an issue with no new season content, long dry spells of no drops, the terrible lobbies and the unused uniques that need reworked that d4 is much much worse.

Thank you to the developers that had the vision and heart to create this game over 25 years ago better than what would follow.

Yeah, thank god its not the game more people are playing.

I get that it’s a “good enough” game. But when it comes to Diablo that’s simply not good enough. It has to blow way beyond all expectations. It literally has to make you want to stay up all night playing it and sacrificing sleep.

These modern Blizzard devs simply don’t know how to do that. Their sub-genre version of ARPG/Diablo isn’t fun or addicting.

And i’ll 1 v 1 anyone that wants to debate me on this topic right here in this thread.

Every time I Chain Lightning a wall instead of an enemy.
Every time an enemy teleport strikes me because of lag.
Every time I have to TP to town to rez my merc and fill my inventory with potions in order to kill an Act Boss playing solo self-found.

I could instead be playing a game where Strength doesn’t make a difference in what gear I use. Only my class does.

And the fact you have a merc that can die.

I see 8 on my screen in d2r. My group only had 4 in d4.

I’m sorry, doesn’t Toyota continually whip the crap out of Ferrari in a race?

Find a new group.

I would have tried but there are no social tools.

It’s tempting to view game popularity as a litmus test for quality. Popularity often overshadows substance due to marketing, social trends, and bandwagon effects. What sells isn’t always what satisfies or endures in gaming culture. The popularity of a game is driven by factors like viral marketing, social media buzz, and FOMO (fear of missing out), not necessarily the depth or creativity of gameplay or narrative. Thus, a game being popular doesn’t inherently mean it’s a good game; it’s simply the one with the most clout in the current market.

…but soon probably will be, after seeing posts of “will pay $$$$ for more stash” or “another act” or “another endgame”.

When it comes to DII:R…

Most paid for a remaster. And I feel for the most part, they got what they paid for. Not counting the graphics update, I feel it could be weighted both ways. But counting the graphics update, this game was definitely a bargain, figuring the powers of the dollar from '00/'01 vs '21+

Then there are those that paid for what they thought was going to have the omnipresent slew of changes and new content like subscription games such as WoW get… While simultaneously failing to understand that WoW profits don’t go towards other games.

You can’t please everyone.

Still waiting on Cain to be moved to his OG Battle.net position…

Nice magical pile of stuff. Can I smoke it?

If only there were other ways to find gamer friends in the modern day…

Never gonna happen.
You know the rules, and so do I…

you know what’s HILARIOUS about the people “willing to pay for stash space” is that they aren’t willing, to buy another acct… for stash space. it’s a paradox i will never understand.

There are none. It’s not about finding friends. It’s about someone doing the same dungeon or objective. Don’t even try to snark your troll self in to thinking there is. You will be just wrong as I feel you are accustomed to.

D4 is trash. Get over it. It hyped itself to get a short term profit. In the process it lost a lot of fans of the Diablo series.

I would pay for so much more. The devs were on a wait and see. They were creating a baseline. They wanted to do more, I am guessing corporate smashed them. They had the will and a vision of what was next. I want to see what it was.

That link from Wowhead was posted September 18, 2021, when the hype train was still running. Also that was more or less speculation and even arguably misinterpretation of VV’s intentions for the game.

Nonetheless, that hype train and their actual quote helped drive sales. So customers developed certain expectations. Again, I would pay for the next act, a prologue, or epilogue. I can see this game expanding. But… It’s owned by Microsoft now which is not known for keeping ip alive.

The pay one time, play as much as you want sales model is dying a slow death, it has been for a long time… It’s a gamble from the start for gaming studios anyway, because they have to pony up the money to develop and market the game, not knowing 100% for sure if it will succeed… Sequels of a successful franchise of course have a better tendency to succeed.

It’s all about that subscription model or freemium GACHA games… Gotta psyche the players and hook them into digging deeper and deeper in their wallets for entertainment.

It looks like Diablo 4 is essentially a subscription model, but instead of monthly charge, people will be just paying for expansions every year.

Disagree. Last years GOTY: Baldur’s gate 3. Blizzard is dying a slow death from producing mediocre games and ruining their IPs.

Yep, and it was always intended to be. If the game was good, people would pay it. I think they are going to be surprised how many people don’t pay another dime after d4. Not only in D4, but on Blizzard games across the board. I know I haven’t. A brand is only as good as extraordinary as the people behind it. I don’t feel there is any talent left at Blizzard. The only driver they have is bean counters. That won’t make a product sell. D4 sold on brand. We will see how good the current team is to this generation, because to me, the brand is done.
