Assassin Trap Bug

There is a relatively unknown bug that basically makes the trapsin useless as an mf area runner and I think it needs some attention. I found out about this through the handful of reddit and forum posts but there is limited information about it. It would be so sad if this wasn’t fixed for D2R.

Basically what happens is that some of the Traps (Death Sentry, Wake of Fire and Wake of Inferno) cast by the player OR his shadow will count as boss/champion monsters. This increases the boss counter for the area and because there is a limited amount of boss packs that can spawn it prevents more real boss packs from spawning.
When casting a few Death Sentries on the first tile of the map you will basically get almost no boss packs in the area.

I hope this somehow can be brought to the devs’ attention.

Sadly I can’t post links but if you google “trapsin and the pit - something fishy going on with boss pack spawns” you will find a forum thread on purediablo with some testing done (on the second page of the thread) which skills are affected.

I believed specials are already spawned when you start the game.

Did you really test this yourself? I know that traps are taken as monsters basicly but this is suprising.

Its funny, there are still things to learn about Diablo 2 after 20 years even when my knowledge about it is so deep lol. I wasnt ever really big assassin player so I never noticed this.

Yes! This bug has largely flown under the radar and is exactly the type of near game-breaking bug that the developers need to focus on fixing!

This has been found, recreated, and discussed on various websites and independently brought up on many private servers as well as Battlenet.

This is wrong. All mobs only spawn when you enter a map/area.

Well maybe monsters are not spawn at start of the game when I think about it, because they are adjusted when you are near them by number of players in game, so they really must be spawned in certain range from player when location is entered.

I am so much looking forward to be playing an Assasin in D2R, but this is a deal breaker for me. I think if they should fix any bug it should be this as it is so unfair towards assasin players that it basically makes Unique monster farming so unefficient that the assasin can’t compete with other classes. Blizzard devs/community managers, if you read this please fix this issue and let us know that you are considering fixing this or if you already have fixed it. Im really looking forward to play this game, just hope I can do it with one of my favourite builds as well! Cheers! :slight_smile:

I just tried this on SP with a MA Sin vs a Trapsin, 5 runs Pit level 1 each.

Number of elites:
MA Sin - 4, 6, 5, 6, 6
TrapSin - 0, 0, 1, 1, 0

lies everyone knows a ma sin can’t kill stuff :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

So, are you telling me that if i enter throne and start spamming traps, there will be no unique packs of souls and death lords with extra speed and fanatism aura?, please give me that bug!

As far as i know, monsters spawn when you create the game, or at least when you first enter an area.

I think this bug doesnt exist, maybe it does in some crap private server.

haha, didn’t have to kill anything, just teled around.

they spawn in about a 2 screen radius (on normal d2lod probably much less in d2r).

the glitch reportedly works by the game counting traps as unique monster spawns so anything that spawns with you within 2 screens of traps is unlikely to be unique.

I get what you mean, I definitely see uniques when I play the game, its not like every area is void of uniques because of traps. Maybe it a Pit specific bug as that is the place I’ve noticed the most impact.

This is like the third post on the topic I’ve seen this week. Hopefully it gets fixed.
