After seeing many reddit treads and members of the diablo 2 community angry about Arreat summit’s server being taken down, i wanted to ask, Do we know if OR when will it be coming back?
Arreat Summit website has been the go to for all diablo 2 players for many years.
Anything you needed to know was there, Runewords, Uniques, Sets, general knowledge about base items to magical items, Prefixes/Affixes of items and all kinds of other great information at your disposal for all types of things related to the game.
People have even gone to the point of having a work around so you are able to gain access to the information on the site.
myself, i shouldn’t have to use a “backdoor method” to gain access to this information. If this is the case they should have taken down d2jsp server when that use to be the primary site to download bots and maphacks for diablo 2 (many years ago before it became the trading website power house it is now for those that want to have fair trading instead of dealing with scammers)
for those that need access to arreat summit the work around is on the Diablo2(dot)io website - one of the community members has been kind enough to give instructions on how to do so.
Anyways, it would be nice for Arreat summit to be merged OR integrated into the D2R website as an alternative instead of having to do this other method. Either by redirecting people to the classic website restored and functional OR they have merged it all into one neat location in the D2R forums to allow people access and to make a post to let the diablo community know what’s happening to a site we have all used for years.
Originally, the URL for Arreat Summit would hang and eventually time out.
Blizzard CS has acknowledged the issue here:
Since then, the URL to Arreat Summit now resolves, but returns access denied. This is step in the right direction, but obviously not quite fixed yet.
As far as WHY it’s taking so long remains unclear… It could be a serious issue that takes this long to resolve, although I can’t imagine what it would be, as it should be a trivial task to restore a VM to a working server, or restore a backup which I know they have… Or, and this is pure speculation… They may be in the process of revamping the site to include information on D2:R, which would be a more reasonable and acceptable explanation for the delay.
Clicking any URL to the site now seems to try to download a .shtml file (which gets blocked for security by my browser). Hopefully they can get this fixed soon.
A simple legacy website that never worked properly and now totally dead without communicating any status info to their user base. How utterly embarrassing and amateur you are Blizzard…
In a blue post? Is the Blizz tracker not working or something? I do not see any blue post/response about this in the forums. Do you mean on a different forum/site?
I used the search bar up top to search Arreat Summit and the first link that popped up had the link to the blue response post.
You won’t get anything further, it’s been over a week now since the response and 2 weeks since it’s been down completely and I doubt they will bring it back or update it. If you really need the old information you can use the wayback machine as it has a fully functioning version or you can use diablo2.io or d2runewizard or what have you if you are looking for something specific.
Exactly what I used the site for. I liked seeing the prefix/suffix section for the jewels and scs so I have an idea on what scs and jewels are worthy. It sucks not having another site that shows all these details on 1 page. Traders rely on this data to determine the price on the items they find.
fret not, arreat summit goes down on a semi regular basis (once every couple of years or so) and it takes the new intern a bit to figure out the ancient hardware and reset it
if they do decide to take it down permanently, its easy to rehost such a simple site elsewhere, we have easy access to the whole thing from archive org
